The guy just won't stop gardening! (bad title?)

This guy just won't stop constantly gardening.

The entire film is basically trying to get him out of the greenhouse.

At least, that's what I assumed and why I put off seeing this film for so long. So now, I am finally seeing it and it's good.

Why didn't they call it "My Wife Was Murdered in Kenya and now I'm going Commando To Hunt Them Down" or something?

p.s. Same problem with the film, "The Reader".

I don't believe that the title has that much to do with the character of Justin Quayle spending so much time gardening.

If you remember, the pesticide that he was using in his garden in Africa, the one that Tessa threw out of his hands and told him to get it out of the house, was made by the same company(three bees) that made the medicine that was being given to the African citizens. So, in my opinion, the title goes more towards the company gardening their pesticide into the African people.

Just a thought

Hi!

I'm sorry, I was just goofing around, not being serious.

I think the title has to do with Justin's complete and pure loyalty. He's constant as in "a constant friend", someone you can rely on. But he's also an innocent.

... and you tend to a garden also, don't you? It's an analogy for the dedicated preservation of the memory of someone you've lost...

"I've been turned down more times than the beds at the Holiday Inn; I still try"

Yes, he tended to Tessa while she was alive, and to her memory after she died.

Also, a gardener digs. And Justin spends the movie digging for clues, and evidence.

Obviously a fairly rich metaphor!

LOL at the OP

Same here.

We all got balls and brains. But some's got balls and chains.

He is persistant and The Constant or Persistant Diplomat does not soudn right. Additionally, his "enemies" did not expect him to get in the way, perhaps they did not think someone who likes being a Gardener in his spare time would be so much trouble.

I have to agree w/ the OP, I put off watching it too b/c of the title. I thought it had something to do w/ being a gardener and never really cared to look into it. Finally watched it b/c I love Ralph Fiennes, the fact that Danny Huston was in it too was a super bonus. But yeah, title threw me off as well.

If you remember, Sandy says to Justin "We all betrayed her. You did by gardening." In other words, his "constant gardening" is a metaphor for the British government turning a blind eye to corporate rape of African innocents.

The prequel, 'The Sporadic Gardener' was wayyyy more entertaining.
