The Constant Gardener versus The English Patient

Which movie do you prefer? Both movies star Ralph Fiennes as the lead and I'm really surprised The Constant Gardener currently has a slightly higher rating. I thought The English Patient was a much better movie.

I liked both very much but I agree with you liked more the English patient.

Ralph had a better chemistry with Kristin Scott Thomas so that made their relationship look more real.

Getting out of topic
the constant gardener has one of the most misguided titles and poster, When I was going to see it I was prepared to watch romantic chick flick.
I thought I was going to watch the English patient again but this time no Hanna and kip and instead of KST it just gonna be Rachel.
the movie has some romance but its more a political thriller/drama so that turned off my friends so much.

I bought this film like two weeks before I watched and I saw the movie for the first in a movie night with my friends they agreed with me to watch this film. Because I told them it was a chick flick but they later hatted the movie.

I was pleasantly surprised that I watched something different than a clone of the English patient which honestly is what I expected when I bought the movie

They said it was too slow and long, but anyway their favorite romance Is twilight and their biggest celebrity crush is Zac Effron.
So I shouldn't have expect much from them

Sarizonana,

You mentioned Zac Efron. I just watched The Lucky One the other day and I thought it was pretty good. Maybe you've already seen it. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1327194/reference.

And Rachel Weisz was very good in Enemy at the Gates. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0215750/reference

I saw the lucky one and I really disliked it.
It's the worst Nicholas Sparks film I've seen, but it's ok if you liked it.

Personally I like more love stories with more mature couples like the English patient, Titanic Moulin Rouge and I liked the 1992 version of Wuthering Heights, tough I enjoyed the notebook very much.

I loved the constant Gardner it's just that's more of a political thriller than a romance, if you are open to watch a movie even tough it's not what you expected its great, but my friends wanted to kill me and even more because of the unsatisfying end.

Weisz is absolutely electrical in this, and deserving of all the praise. But I thought that Fiennes was just as good (though went unnoticed) in one of his most subtle, introverted performances he played. Love this film but The English Patient is an epic masterpiece and just better in the way it was executed overall. Especially by the director.

Besides Ralph Fiennes being in both movies, what do they have in common? They are both great movies, but are completely different. I would have to be in completely different moods to watch either one.

If you have read either book, (or both!) the difference is even more striking. It is like comparing apples to watermelon. I like both, but, seriously, I eat each one for completely different reasons!

The Constant Gardener, both book and movie, is about uncovering a relationship, but John le Carré knows about human interactions via espionage first, love second. On a more important level, it also serves as a tale of the greed and danger may be found in the ethically questionable world of worldwide pharmaceutical development.

The English Patient, especially the book
but also the movie, are epic love stories that the central focus. You may pick up some historical information, you may find a general tale of moral values, however, there is no current technological lesson learned. This does not mean it is not worthy of discussion or review, it just places the story in a different context. (I have not seen The English Patient in about five years. I watch The Constant Gardener at least twice a year.)

Is The English Patient ever on pay cable? Netflix, etc???? I would like to watch it again, but I won't be comparing the two works. I think of one as a romance, the other as a romantic political thriller.

English patient was better.
