i understand what you mean, but i have to disagree with you in some things. the movie did jump around a lot, and at the beginning this was really confusing, but it kept up the suspense, it kept up the level of interest in the movie. i didn't want to stop watching because i was so intensely involved in the characters' lives. however, the beginning of the mother's stealing annoyed me, because i couldn't figure out what the heck she was doing, and that pulled my mind away from concentrating on the rest of the movie.
but just because the movie seemed too long to you, doesn't mean that the book is bad too. a lot of times the book is so much better than its movie counterpart, and you can't judge one by the other. i would suggest trying the book, because you never know how it might take you.
i did love the graphics as well, especially when she was writing, and the pencil line became thousands of letters.
i thought they could have done better than richard gere, though. i don't think he was able to embody a jewish man. i have a lot of jewish friends, and i just couldn't get my mind around the fact that "that's richard gere..he's not jewish".
all in all, i thought bee season had its faults, but it was also an incredibly compelling movie, and i was so taken with it, and with the actors' performances, and i really want to read the book!
