It might be a refrence to some Japanese anime shows where characters' hair changes color periodicaly. Dragonball Z, Inuyasha, ECT.

Kimiko is a J-Pop girl and they are known for their hair hair styles and crazy clothes (though I love most of her outfits)
Its a form of expression- and probably a way to fix the bordem of coming from Tokyo to rural China.
Also anyone notice that her hair color doesn't change as often after season one
