I really liked this movie, especially the fact that Melanie was a struggling new teacher. Does anyone know any similar movies with this theme? Especially ones dealing with new teachers in a new location, like ESL teachers? The plot keyword search was not very helpful.

Iron and Silk, made around 1990, is about a male ESL teacher who goes to China to teach English (not to kids though but to teachers). It's worth a look.

It is not about a new teacher but Ole Dole Doff (1966) is a good one.
