There was an article in the Baltimore Sun newspaper last week sometime. I'm sorry that I forgot to save it. I would say it was Thursday, Friday or Saturday. I believe the Sun archives the articles at sunspot.net. The nephew of Mr. Thomas was interviewed. He had no idea that his uncle had been such a great man at Hopkins. Both portraits hang at the med school, there. I hope this helps!!

I just received an email inviting me to a preview showing of this film at Burns Theater in Pleasantville, NY on May 26th. I am a member of that theater. I responded-hope I get a confirmation email.

I found an ad for it in the back of the June 2004 issue of Premiere that said it airs Sunday May 30th at 9 on HBO.

The makers of this film got the idea from DC-based Spark Media's documentary "Partners of the Heart," narrated by Morgan Freeman and aired on PBS, among other venues. The writer/producer for Partners of the Heart, Andrea Kalin, got a consultant credit for it, although she basically got screwed in that they went ahead and did the project without her. I know because I worked for Spark Media just after the post-production on this film a couple years ago, and I'm now working there again.

Actually, this film was based on the National-Magazine-Award-winning 1989 Washingtonian article "Like Something the Lord Made" by Katie McCabe, which was optioned eight years ago for the film. That article is reprinted in Friedlander and Lee's college journalism textbook, "Feature Writing for Newspapers and Magazines: The Pursuit of Excellence, Fifth Edition," for anyone who'd like to read it. The L.A. Times just printed a correction on Friday, June 4th on this matter, since there seems to be some ongoing confusion about the inspiration for the movie.
