explain to me *spoilers!*

I dont get it,
Firstly, In the beginning when the police enter his room, the girl is messing around with that chinese cube. When interviewed she says she had an argument with him, and then he ran off. But when we get to see what happened, he got beaten up, ran to her house, saw her with her boyfriend and then he ran off to jump.

She is lying about the night he died, did she put the note in the cube?

i think i totally missunderstood this movie, doesnt happen often to, might have to watch this one again....

anyhow, anyone care to explain?

reply

I think she was telling the truth...the last time SHE saw him was when they argued and he ran off. As far as she's aware, he never came back out of the woods.

reply

That's right, and about the Chinese cube - she couldn't open that since it was something for magicians, that's why the father COULD. So the girl never knew it was a suicide.

Don't be a tourist, just live like one

reply

which almost makes sense that the boy didn't want her to find out it was a suicide so he probably purposely put in there

reply

Don't forget the boy was a magician of sorts. Witness the changing of the rose from white to red. Also, his father was aware of his magic trick capabilities and he (the father) did open the box when Abel came to see him and ask him to pursue charges.

reply

how didi he turn the rose red...........anyone please........what didi he use??
[email protected] email me im goin crazy

what I don't get is why oh why does he NOT tell her the truth at the end? about the suicide?? it's almost like the same he did with his dad in a weird sort of way about his brother. i liked the movie...and ed burns was gorgeous :)

reply

There was no sense in making her feel badly and carry with her a connection to his suicide. Better to let her think it was an accident. He also tried to let his father know he was involved in his brother getting the gun so it wouldn't be his father's fault about the gun but it really didn't matter to his father as he had the guilt of knowing his son had hugged him goodbye and he should have found out why he had acted so strangely.

That was the one thing I did understand .... Able did not want the girl to feel bad and hate herself for the rest of her life, even though she was a callous uncaring rich bitch. I think he did not realize about his brother maybe, or maybe he did because when he was investigating the school first he had that flashback to the shotgun, and even before he saw the kid. This is something that is being used more and more in movies, these inside psycho-fake shots that are supposed to be semi-mystical I guess and fill you in on what the character is going through.
I don't like it, it is confusing.

Abel blamed himself for his brother's death since he got the rifle for him, which he used to commit suicide. After finding out about Gus' suicide note at the end, Abel didn't want Carlin to go through what he went through. So he made up the story that Gus' death was an accident.
