This movie was so...uninvolving

'Renaissance' has undeniably beautiful graphics, but as I watched it just a few minutes ago, I strongly felt I should comment on the woodenness of this film. As I watched it, I felt as if there was no communication going on between me and the screen. I really didn't care what happened next.

(And I won't even try to discuss about the dull characters, bad acting, cliches, and predictable plot...)

A 5/10 from me.

I had a similiar reaction. It reminded me of Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust - amazing to look at but once you view the film a few times, you start to pay more attention to the characters and it loses it's appeal. Worse was the overall look of the film faulters with the juxtoposition of the stop motion. The movements of the characters are incredibly stiff.

It's clear they were going for a "blade runner" futuristic Noir (with Frank Miller-esk visuals) but it simply doesn't have the character support. The script was forgettable and the acting regretable - it's impossible to connect with any of the characters who are over-shadowed by the visuals.

I almost fell asleep. Though that might be because of the hypnotizing black and white.

Bring me an apple, I'm crying.

I wouldn't blame you if you did.
What a cliched, dumb movie.

Agreed. My eyes kept going out of focus and several times during viewing, I thought about turning it off. It's not a terrible film, exactly, but it wasn't at all moving either.

reply

Entirely emotionally unaffecting. I really don't know why my brother owns it.
But hey, as long as it has testosterone and/or violent killing, he's happy.

The plot was so lame it needed a wheelchair. And, particularly with the amateurish English dub, the characters were instantly forgettable.

In my eyes, this was an experiment in animation that would have been far better suited to a 30 minute short than a feature.

Wholeheartedly agree. Visuals are greats but you can't help but be disconnected by the ridiculous, cliche laden script and the flat, unconvincing acting.

I know what you mean, the pacing was off too, it was nice to look at but that novelty wore thin about 20 minutes into the movie, I didn't hate it, but was hoping for more...

your points stand, but an uninvolving movie of this category is always a 1/10

I gave it a 7, but that one word pretty much sums it up. This could have been so much better.
