Book versus movie

In general, I enjoyed the movie. I don't want to spoil the book or movie for anyone, but I was puzzled by the parts of the movie that didn't correspond with the book. Why were Maja and Kristina inserted into the movie (particularly Kristina)? And the ending was just odd. Given that the movie lasts over two hours, it seems that most of the important elements of the book could have been incorporated into the movie.

Can you help me with the ending of "The Man Who Smiled?" I set my DVR correctly, but it seems to have chopped off the last few minutes. I guess the broadcast went longer than what was listed. The last thing I see if Wallander visiting the sail boat.

Alright then:
Wallander visits Sten's sail boat together with Maja. He wants to change his ways to deserve her, but she gives him a "last kiss".
Wallander's boss wants him to end the Harderberg case and admit defeat. He sees Harderburg giving a triumphant interview on television. This gives him the idea to leak his whole investigation on Harderburg to the press: he "accidentally" drops his files at the feet of the female reporter he talked to earlier about the sex case.
Last scene is Wallander in his SAAB singing "Cadillac" by The Renegades.

You are brilliant. Thank you so much. I completely forgot about that reporter.

I just noticed the whole film is also on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSPv_zhBoGk So you can watch the ending there. Of course I've now spoiled it...
