Connections to Running Man (film)

My boyfriend was playing and noticed some connections to that Runningman movie with Arnie. At one point, a Wardog even referred to Cash as "a runner", which is what they called the chased in the film.

Also, each gang has their gimmicks, and the operation is run by a powerful, sadistic man. We were just wondering if this games was inspired by the film, and to some lesser extent the book, or if it's just a coincidental concept. The idea of man being hunted by man is far from new, but Manhunt and Runningman both add a similar spin on the idea.

How were they inspired by GTA (Bully came afterwards so we can't count that? GTA is known for its sandbox game play, and Manhunt has none of that. The player does not have the option to ignore missions, roam the area, and complete mini missions with the game still somewhat progressing. If anything, this games is the odd one out when compared to games like the GTA series and Bully for that reason.

GTA and Manhunt are in the same vein. Both contain controversy including drugs and heavy violence but they're just different stories. GTA is bigger, with more things to do in so much time. Manhunt is more narrow, but darker and 10x more violent. GTA and Manhunt contain the same combat system.. well excluding GTA IV.

Read the short story written by Stephen King which The Running Man was based on. Its far more gritty and violent than the film and just much better quality. The book resembles Manhunt much more although hes just a normal guy in the book. The endings far better than the film version as well.

Someone who flees is usually referred to as a runner.
