Ideas for a Manhunt 3?

Hey, everyone. I started this topic to see what you would like to see out of a Manhunt 3.

I think a plot involving Voodoo would be interesting. Have you guys seen that movie The Serpent And The Rainbow? The creative team at Rockstar should definately take lessons from that film, if they are to develop Manhunt 3. I think a storyline set in the Caribbean that involves Voodoo would be something different for the franchise. And who says that the protagonist has to be a hardened deathrow inmate or an escaped mental patient? He could be an anthropologist or your typical everyday guy, and doesn't neccessarily need a criminal background. Of course, the game would be slated for next-gen consoles and could definately bring back the intensity and hard-hitting impact of the original Manhunt. That is, if it's done right.

Although there are other video games out there that use Voodoo as its main focus (such as Acclaim's Shadow Man and the lesser-known Akuji The Heartless), Rockstar could capitalize on it and use so many twists that no one else could have ever thought of. Manhunt 3 could be a huge step forward for the series.

Any-hoo, that's just a thought. Anyone else?

No, sorry, I want NONE of this!!!!

I want Manhunt to go back to the original storyline, the rich snuff film aficionado uses some poor sod to get his kicks. It could go on and on forever like this and I would be very happy. I hate Manhunt 2 not only because of the censored executions, but also because the storyline veered too far from the original. Manhunt needs to remain as a snuff series!!!!!!

I respect your opinion, Nova. But knowing Rockstar, I HIGHLY DOUBT they would go back to the snuff film storyline.

Why not? Was the storyline the actual controversy, or was it the graphic executions?

I loved the whole snuff film storyline too.

Not exactly for those two reasons. I guess what I'm trying to say is that Rockstar isn't known for repetition. For example, the Grand Theft Auto series. Gameplay is very similar, but the characters, setting, and storyline are completely different in each game.

Don't get me wrong, though... the original Manhunt is a thousand times better than part 2.

That's actually what I'm referring to, that RockStar should maintain the original snuff premise, just as it maintains the basic GTA premise. I mean, the GTA series is basically the same game but with different characters in different locations.

They can always change the Manhunt locations, characters, or shuffle various bits, pieces and storylines around, but as long as they keep the basic 'snuff' premise intact.

This is what I believe caused Manhunt 2 to fail--the storyline veered too far from the original premise (also that RockStar succumbed to the ratings board).

I don't think the lack of snuff premise in Manhunt 2 was it's failing cause. I think it was the score and creepiness of the original that the part two failed to carry on. Manhunt 2 basically had no score so it wasn't that creepy. Manhunt 2 was too loud with the helicopters and all that, and packed with alot of action with very little stealth. I wasn't too impressed with Lamb's character as well. Schizophrenic killers isn't that original. Cash was more of just a regular cold-hearted killer.

What's deal with steering away the "snuff premise"? MH never was subject of it. Snuff was just snippet of game's storyline. Also, why would repeat the same idea twice? IMO, story in the sequel is better and more intriguing with top notch voice acting. Too bad the game ended up easier and shorter anyway. I just hope the Rockstar will return to the lenght, intensity and cynism from the first with heart beating (absent from sequel) and storyline chunks from the second.

If Rockstar could do it, I am on, even if the executions get hampered in "graphic" terms. Somehow, I felt those in MH are more brutal than even uncensored in MH2 (I played on PC - which is rated AO). For that, I really don't care if it's censored or not. As long as it can be felt and impactful.

Rockstar wont release another manhunt I can assure you of this. Not after the whole fiasco with number 2. They would have to release a censored game again which they would not do again or make it pc exclusive which again they would not do.

Although I hope they do lol

That's not a bad idea about voodoo. There have been several cases of people given the "zombie toxin" who were pronounced dead by trained medical doctors, only to awaken some time later. But I also agree with Nova; it would be good if they would incorporate your voodoo idea into the whole genre of surviving a snuff film. In other words, some other rich lunatic, possibly a contemporary of the late Starkweather, pays to have someone injected with a zombie toxin and pronounced dead only to have them wake up as an unwitting pawn in a complex snuff film somewhere in the West Indies.

I want to original storyline as well because it was so simple yet so amazing. One thing is certain... THERE BETTER NOT BE ANY CENSORED EXECUTIONS

You can thank that @sshole Jack Thompson for the censoring in "Manhunt 2." It's not bad enough that he thinks he knows what's best for everybody, but he actually has the audacity to THREATEN LEGAL ACTION against anyone else who utilizes their First Amendment rights in terms of literature, music, talk radio, or electronic entertainment. It's people like him who represent everything wrong with the United States.

There is a disc you can buy online that takes away the censored executions, the game is so much better trust me

It could defiantly work with the scary themes in the previous games. It makes me think of Angel Heart. Thats a great idea.

I don't know if anyone has said this but there WILL be a Manhunt 3. One of my boyfriends college teachers is a tester and they have both played Manhunt 3. Boyf had to write a 3000 word essay in exchange for playing it. He said it's proper back to basics stuff and NOT AT ALL like MH2. Which is a good thing

Holy *beep*, really???!! That's some of the best news I've heard in quite a while!! If it's nothing like the 2nd, which I liked but was supremely disappointed by, then it will be so much better...

Tell me though, is it back to the original premise? Is Cash in it?

reply

It's not as half baked as Manhunt 2. It's the original premise in the sense of hunting people in Carcer but not an ex-con. Yes Cash is there but it would spoil it for you if I told you how, LoL.
Glad I brought you some cheer, :-)

Ha, excellent.

I hate to ask even more, but does the game look like it will wrap sometime soon, or is it only in the beginning stages?

reply

When the boyf played it he said it was at demoing stages, they were looking at glitches and bugs. Maybe some minor changes to the V.O's etc. Should be announcing it soon, like Oct-Dec(ish)

sweet! never got to play #2 (from what I hear thats a good thing). cant wait for #3 on the PS3

So... it's been two years since this impromptu leak.... any updates?

I just HOPE that it has the FEAR FACTOR as MH1 did. MH2 improved the play mechanics (climbing, jumping off heights, controlling breathing in dark, etc.), but the INTENSITY WAS GONE.

Hope it's in the planning stages and R* hopefully learned their lessons from the MH2 mistakes.

They should make manhunt 3 the game version of "A serbian film".
...which is pretty similar, though f'd up moreso.

Storyline, I dunno.
Maybe you're average guy getting called into work early...works for a large construction company in a desk job. As he heads in, the player sees a few heads turning, but nothing too suspicious.
Walks into his bosses office, who you see has been crying, plays it off as allergies.
Conversation takes place.
Boss says "Just wanted to tell you, the last 6 months you've been here, you've been doing a great job..." reaches out to shake his hand, pulls a gun.
Trigger quicktime/button press event, wrestle the gun away.
He goes to the floor crying..."I'm sorry...my family...they have" then gets shot through the head from outside the window.

Player hears commotion/footsteps/voices approach, and runs into another area. A momentary "safe room" where you'll start your game, to hear a voice over an intercom system saying "ok players...this is where your last 6 months pays off"
You find that it's a competition this time for the hunters.
No gangs.
Though, if there could be more than one person in the players position too, that you could interact with or even play as throughout the game.
Different items/skillsets/knowledge so to speak.

Of course, if there's no gangs, a lot of the people hunting you will be people you've worked with.
So the *other* people stuck in your position will look just the same.
I think this will work well for the paranoia factor, not knowing if you can trust anybody. As long as they don't overplay it like the ps2 title "the thing" by making EVERYONE susceptible.

I think a few different outcomes to do with cause and effect of your actions in the game would be cool - but no more than say 3...I don't need 10 endings...but it would be good if for each three, you'd have to approach the game in a different way that would actually lead to different quests or areas, thus making the game more replayable.

Throughout the game, you'll also have the ability to drive places, but you'll need to keep a low profile as you'll be wanted for the killing of your boss.
Go between construction sites, peoples homes, office buildings, and then whatever/wherever the final stage is.

Something like that would work for me.

I'm kind of worried now that I saw this post is three years old. Do you think that this game is still going to come out?

reply

I'd also like to see traps this time around.

reply

It would be nice if Cash could do unarmed stealth kills...sneaks behind hunter and snaps his neck.

So long and thanks for all the fish!
