i dont really understand y andrea and shy couldnt just get back 2gether secretly i mean i know shy was in hidding but like y did andrea start sleeping around and doing drugs.....anyone understood this part at all?

shareI think that they didn't sneak around because Shy couldn't really stand to be seen in public and he wasn't himself anymore and, like Andrea said, she broke along with him.
After she lost her virginity and she couldn't be with the one person that she really loved, and since her father was so eager to keep her shelter, she rebelled and slept with whoever she wanted to.

It was the Dad's fault for going all crazy when he found out Andrea had sex. Since he said she wasn't allowed to have sex, so it must have been rape, she tried to prove him wrong by having sex all the time with anyone. It is also the Dad's fault that Hammer went after Shy and disfigured him, which means it is also the Dad's fault that Shy killed Hammer when Hammer got out of prison.

This movie is like one giant oompa loompa warning--who is to blame? The mother and the father......this was about the effect of parents' behavior on children and also the absence, overindulgence, etc of children....

It literally broke my heart when she got in Richie's car and said that appalling line. Zoe herself has a representation of purity and was perfectly cast. To see that she was so unaffected by negativity then taken in by it's evil charms was heart breaking!!
I know that stuff like that happens daily...because young people are misled by the ones they trust, the ones they expect to look out for their best interests and when they feel it's right to move out of that comfort zone, they get heavily reprimanded and become so confused. Whew! But honestly, I wish in a reality sense that Shy hadn't become secluded from the world. He could have saved her from herself. I'm sorry, but some people need guidance in life and without it they "lose their way".
Okay, I'm done. I just applied this to my life and understood the circumstances and the pain involved. Never been through it myself, but just take the idea and apply it to the one you truly love...

she wanted to hurt everyone who hurt her...and since they all cared about her sexuality and drug/alcohol usage or lack thereof and used those to gauge whether she was pure or not, she used those against the lot of them.

And, she thought well if she couldn't have him, she was unhappy and didn't give a S what she did or who did her, or what happened to her. This is evident throughout the rest of the movie (after they break up).
