A Scene By Scene Spoiler - Part 2 of 2

The following is a continuation of my scene by scene spoiler of Finding Kate - written and directed by Katherine Brooks. When we left off at the end of part one, Victoria was about to leave the wedding reception and Kate had a decision to make.

FINDING KATE - PART 2:

In her mind Kate took the ultimate plunge as she imagined herself diving into the swimming pool. Still wearing her bridesmaid’s dress, and with her silhouette illuminated by the numerous rays of light that pierced through the water, she felt like an undersea goddess. Her long blond hair and the crimson gown flowed along silently as her long arms and bare feet propelled her through the tranquil water. As she curved up toward the surface Kate felt herself bursting free, leaving her dress behind to float like a cocoon now empty of its occupant.

Kate opened her eyes, bringing herself back to reality, as she watched the hazy mist rise up from the heated pool into the cool night air. Having decided to leave the reception with Victoria, she was now floating on her back with her arms outstretched in the pool wearing a pale pink two-piece bathing suit. Victoria was standing next to her in a black bikini, the water coming up to her shoulders. Her right arm was extended under Kate’s shoulders while her left arm lingered directly under Kate’s waist. Kate glanced straight up watching the palm trees, which lined each side of the pool, come in and out of view as she and Victoria revolved in a slow circle. Victoria quietly stated, “God, I love the water.” “I can’t believe that you guys lived on the boat for three years,” Kate said. “I know,” Victoria said as she laughed. “It was fun. Except that I wanted to kill him most of the time!”

Kate stopped floating, allowing her body to right itself, in order to stand next to Victoria. The two women, intoxicated with desire, looked at each other for a moment. “I wish you would have called me,” Kate confessed as she smiled at her cousin. “Well, considering I was in the middle of the Pacific, that would have been hard,” Victoria responded, her dark eyes continuing to hold Kate captive. After a brief pause she pointed out to Kate, “I sent you a post card.” “Having fun in Fiji – Victoria,” Kate stated as she quoted the card’s brief message. “You could have at least written a letter,” Kate chided as she slowly backed away from Victoria. “What,” Victoria asked as she moved toward Kate, “Put it in a bottle and throw it into the ocean?” “I would have gotten it,” Kate firmly declared. “I don’t doubt it,” Victoria granted, her lowered tone pouring over Kate like warm honey. They were now standing just inches apart from each other. Their eyes were locked in a torrent of emotion as they resisted the urge to drift into each other’s arms. Kate turned away from Victoria and gripped the edge of the pool with both hands. In an attempt to maintain some semblance of restraint Victoria found herself glancing away for a moment, but her deep attraction for Kate pulled her right back around toward the young woman.

A wave of trepidation and uncertainty slid across Kate’s face. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath as Victoria came up behind her. She could feel Victoria’s heat radiate against her eager body. For a long moment Victoria gazed at Kate before she slowly moved her upturned right hand through the warm water. Extending her fingers, she tenderly touched Kate beginning at the curve of her breast, continuing down her side, past her hip to her slender thigh. Her eyes closed as her fingers continued to explore Kate’s soft skin. Kate was engulfed with a flood of desire as she took pleasure in Victoria’s loving touch. She too, closed her eyes as she pictured in her mind the gorgeous body that was pressed up against her.

Victoria opened her eyes and stepped back as Kate turned around. Gradually bringing her eyes up to meet Victoria’s, Kate felt her body tense with anticipation. Shaken by her own excitement, Kate was spellbound. She couldn’t tear her eyes away from Victoria’s sensuous lips. She slowly leaned in toward Victoria, hesitating briefly before placing a whisper of a kiss on her lips. Kate felt herself holding onto Victoria for support as once again their lips met, only this time Victoria’s tongue moved eagerly into Kate’s mouth. Their ardent bodies surged together as their kiss deepened; their legs entwining as they teased and aroused each other. Kate felt Victoria’s arms slide around her waist drawing her into a tighter embrace as their breasts molded together. Again and again Victoria’s soft lips and tongue came to Kate with increased passion and desire. Kate tightened her hold as sweet waves of pleasure swept through her body. Victoria gently pulled away from Kate, her smoky eyes still blazing vividly with arousal. She softly stroked Kate’s cheek with her fingertips; the water quietly dripping off her hand and back into the pool. Her gaze met and persuasively held Kate’s as she glided backwards toward the stairs. A grin appeared on her face and it was echoed by Kate, who stood transfixed, knowing that they were going to spend the rest of the night together – her first time – making love.

The gentle beams of the morning sun streaked through the window, past the open curtains and across the bed where Kate was sleeping. She was lying on her left side, half covered by the cream colored sheet and comforter. Her angelic face looked so peaceful; her soft tan skin was accentuated by the ivory bra that she had on. Kate woke and as she slowly opened her eyes she realized that she was alone in the bed. She propped herself up on one elbow, glancing around the room, then back to the bed where she saw a note, addressed to her, leaning up against Victoria’s pillow. Picking it up, she opened it and began to read. As her eyes skimmed over the words, her lower lip began to quiver and tears began to well up in her eyes. Kate laid back down, the pillow cradling her head as the tears rolled down her cheeks. She lightly bit her trembling lip as she caressed the front of the note where Victoria had written Kate’s name. She could feel her heart breaking as she realized that her cousin was neither going to stay nor take Kate with her – she had loved her and left her all in one memorable night.

Having now arrived back at home, Kate walked into her bedroom. Still in her bridesmaid’s dress from the day before, she stepped over to her full length mirror with her arms crossed and stared at her reflection. She felt so different on the inside, yet she could find no outward sign that anything had changed.

Kate sat in her bedroom window seat wearing her untied black boots, with her knees drawn up - covered by the crimson dress and her arms wrapped around her legs. Several decorative clear glass bottles were lined up on a ledge between the seat and the window. Kate looked out across the yard as she thought about Victoria and their night together. The more that she thought about Victoria’s decision to leave her behind, the faster her tears flowed. She had so much that she wanted to share with Victoria, but now she was gone.

Thinking of their conversation last night in the pool, Kate decided to write Victoria a letter. She took one of the bottles from her window sill, sat down at her desk with pen and paper and began to write – “Victoria…” Once finished, she rolled up the letter and slid it into the bottle. Kate smiled as she held up the bottle and looked at the contents – this would find its way to Victoria and then she would know exactly how Kate felt.

Back to the present moment; Kate stood on the beach with the glass bottle in hand. The lone sailboat continued on its course up the coast, slowly disappearing from her view. Kate’s skirt fluttered in the wind as she walked toward the breaking waves. Looking out across the ocean, she seemed at peace as she gently tossed the bottle into the water. Her soft young eyes watched as her heartfelt message to Victoria drifted out with the tide, heading on a long journey through the wild and untamed sea. Kate quietly turned to head down the beach, walking serenely on the sand as the waves washed over her bare feet. Pausing for a moment, she slowly glanced back over her shoulder toward the floating bottle. Smiling, she turned away, satisfied with the knowledge that she’d left the door open for hope.
