Would you watch a US remake?

I seldom say this, but I'm really hoping the US does it's own version of this show.

There was a lot I liked about the original, but it could also be pretty unsatisfying, probably because it's brevity seemed more sketch comedy than story propelled.

I think it would prosper in a format closer to Boston Legal (& for some reason keep seeing Megan Mullally as one of the leads).

Your opinions/ dream cast?

NO, never, remakes are always crap. Yes, always. No, no exceptions - movies or tv, they are always crap.

What are you THINKing????

Remakes = attempts to drum up ad revenue among the people too stupid, lazy, or careless to watch anything that requires a lick of effort.

"But the accents are so hard to unnerstand! Gimme an American one so I don't have to, like, think or try at all. Those English people shore do talk funny, they should make a good old US of A version."

Dream cast = the real cast, the one that already made this show.

Pffft.

I've only gotten to see a bit of a few episodes of ABSOLUTE POWER, and am really wanting to see the whole series properly; it seemed wonderful. On our PBS station, it was not promoted at all and the scheduling of it was erratic and unpredictable, so I never really got to know it (reason I came looking for it on imdb).

I think a U.S.A. version could be quite fun, but could also be easily screwed up, as so many Brit to Yank adaptations are (NOT all, though, acetremendous). For many of us, it's not at all about being lazy or having difficulties with accents or being U.S.A.-centric. I can really get into a program from the U.K. or otherwhere in the world, in great part BECAUSE of accents, storylines and concerns specific to its region, but also enjoy well executed U.S.A. adaptations, extreme rarities though they may be. ABSOLUTE POWER seems like one where the basic premise could be very amusingly applied to the specifics of North American politics, PR, and spin-culture, IF it were done well. It would probably have a fairly different feel to it, but could be good, particularly if the makers would be brave and not hold back punches or feel the need to make sharks sympathetic. God knows, these last few years have yielded LOTS of material to work with.

You couldn't possibly name one remake that isn't crap. Never, ever has there been a good remake. It's nothing to do with cultural differences, I'm saying that there never has been and never will be a good remake of a film or television show. There are simply no examples.

(PLEASE don't insult good taste by saying "The Office"!)

If this is a premise that works in America, then someone can write an American show on these themes. They don't need to rip off the name and characters to do so.

Not "story propelled"??? There's more story packed into a single episode than probably anything else on tv today.

Good, tight writing is hard to come by. Adding a bit of padding would only make it longer, it wouldn't improve it.

"Absolute Power USA" - absolutely not I say! The British make great comedies full of wit and satire. But when the Americans try to make their own versions of them, they end up being weak, lame, and full of slapstick that couldn't even raise a chuckle amongst those who enjoyed the originals. Why do the Americans even have to make their own versions of good British comedies? Can't they just enjoy the original British versions? Don't they have enough good ideas of their own to make their own comedy shows? I do wish they would stop trying to imitate the British, since they are incapable of doing a good job of it!

Oh come on! Don't be so narrow-minded! I would like to see an american version. I don't think it would suck. Look at Queer As Folk: UK original was weak, but the american remake is just awesome
