Did anyone else cry?
I was crying my eyes out.... It really did a great job bringing out primal childhood conflicts which are overlooked by our happy kid culture that censured anything true from children.

shareOh yes, definitely! Especially when Max was leaving the island and howling to the Wild Things :(
...or something far more sinister?
I almost did, but forced myself not to (didn't want to cry in the theater.)
shareI cried really when I seen Carol sobbing towards the end.
shareLike a child.
I havnt cried from a movie in years too
The ending really captures the process of learning that a child that age has to go through regarding saying goodbye to those you love. Similar to the first trip to a summer camp ... you become so close to you new friends, and then ... it's time to say goodbye. But you never really forget them, do you?

When I watched this in theatres, I struggled to keep my tears at bay but when I re-watched this film on DVD later in the privacy of my home I cried and cried. The scene that moved me the most was actually the scene when Carol shows Max his mountain diorama set and talks about losing his teeth as an analogy to losing his friends. I related so much to the loneliness addressed in this film, this film really touched something in my core. Spike Jonze has created something truly magical here.
shareYes! :)
shareThis was a very, very sad movie.
Loneliness, outsiders, confusion. This movie really bothered me to be honest. It was just so depressing.
Hi Iguana Man3,
Can I direct your attention to the following reaction I wrote a few months ago:

There is a sadness to this film but I don't believe the goal is to depress...
KW.
No tears here, but this film quickly brought me in the middle of my childhood emotions and experiences. Awesome!
