This thread is old, but your link is outdated. Erik Bergstrom? His stuff reminds me of Adventure Time, Invader Zim and Alex Pardee. I don't think his stuff is at all close to what Sendak and this film is about...

Anyways, now that I awaken this thread, are any users willing to recommend books written for children that deal with subjects as dark as what Sendak's infamous book was about...?

Or films, for either children or adults? I think Tideland is an interesting choice yet embraces darker human emotions and more threatening bystanders.

"The Neverending Story" by Michael Ende (the book - the first movie was good but it only covered the first half of the book and didn't reach the depth of message that the novel had), especially if you have the patience to read about its influences and thus its meanings :)
