Is this game any good?

I'm an avid survival/horror gamer, and I'm a girl, who knew? hehe, I was just wondering if this game is any good, if I should rent it, keep a light on. My brother and his friend, Pat, told me that it is the scariest game ever created. I want to know all I can about this game from people that have played it. I couldn't finish Fatal Frame 2, Silent hill 2 or 4, and I think i'd be too scared to play this one. Everytime I pass it at Hollywood video I always get a cold chill up my spine, I don't know why.

Hey, don't bother renting it. Go out and buy it. It's not scary tbh - it's a gory action fest, but it certainly is chilling. The creature design is just amazing, controls are slick and the game as a whole is totally bitchin. Just buy it, you won't be disappointed :)

I'm a girl too, my husband played this game and I loved it. As long as you don't plan on visiting any old prisons you shouldn't be scared. It has a good amount of cussing but nothing you haven't heard. There are some freaky monsters but nothing too bad. The cool thing is you can go for a good ending helping people and only killing bad guys a neutral ending or a bad by killing everything. It's kind of freaky when you hear the kids talking or the wife. My son watched it (he hid) but never had any nightmares or anything. I really recommend buying it, you can play it different ways for different outcomes. if you need help go to http://cheats.gamespot.com/914619-The-Suffering

Actually I thought THE SUFFERING was truly scary. Surpasses RETURN TO CASTLE WOLFENSTEIN and also SILENT HILL 2 IMO.

The latter of these games I considered to be somewhat bland on scares even though it is great on atmosphere and has some disturbing content.

The former scared me mainly because of the lopers, Olaric (the first boss) and the first appearance of and the super soldiers.

THE SUFFERING surpasses both by miles and has certainly re-invigorated my interest in the horror FPS genre. I've just bought F.E.A.R. and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. And there are several more I plan to get in the future.

I love survival/horror too, and I'm a girl as well, heh. I use to be too scared to play resident evil! But I can defiantly play the suffering so you have nothing to worry about. It IS scary but after a while, The main character, Torque's confidence really gets to you. Buy it, try it on easy, I'm sure you'll like it. I'm currently on like level 16, Hard Mode, awesome.

I've never played it either, but I am thinking I need to go get it because everything I am reading and my best friend swears by it, so it's just been one of those games that slipped through the cracks.. so I am on my way to go get it now...

Great horror/survial game. I am female, I love scary games, this one is on my top 5. I just started on the 2nd version, played the 1st twice. Best with the lights off. When you beat the 1st version watched the documentary at the end of the game about the "Haunted" Eastern state penitintary. Walking around in the prison during the more quiet scenes of the game, made the hairs on arm stand up. If you like scary this is you're game.

THE SUFFERING makes SILENT HILL 2 look like a mundane stroll through the park in comparison. SILENT HILL 2 has got great atmosphere and a nice story as well as being a game I very much like. But THE SUFFERING is the real deal in sustained strong horror (as opposed to jump scares and atmospheric eerieness. It is a surprisingly effective psychological horror game for a first-person shooter. Some of the flashbacks of the main character are supremely disturbing stuff. THE SUFFERING is one intense roller-coaster ride from start to finish.
