Hermes is soooooooo coooooooollllll @Spoilers@

Hey guys, I am sure you are still having fun with this game. I heard this game long time ago, but only have a chance to complete the whole game through the last two weeks in Christmas break. For me tho, it is short but it is very very memorable. One of the feature of course is the monster design, I think is better than Doom 3. your thought?
Anyway, I found out Slayers are very cool , really doesn't like mainliners, especiailly in the place where thee are full of water,It seemed everytime there is water and you are in big trouble. And they seemed come in huge packs, like 5 or 6,maybe 10 or 12 in the shower. lol. you got to use most of the ammo trying to make sure all of them are dead. the final boss.....ummm......what can I say. its a creative way to kill a boss in the game like this.
But , the ultimate bad guy that I found, is the gaseous monster, if I remember correctly he is Hermes. Bloody hell who think this guy has a catchy voice? it is so terrifying yet can't help but being drawn to what he say while he is shooting you with gaseous missiles. First time this guy pop-up together with Killjoy in the second or third level I think, where you start to learn how to gain monster transformation, and Hermes is just keep talking about the thing that you have done. If it is in the other game, then I found repetitive talking boring. but Hermes is different, the more he talk, the more terrifying you get, and really want to get out of there. Oh the basement beneath the lighthouse, what can I say. jeez, man it is really scarry and I enjoy play that level a lot. I remember he says something like:

"I have seen many executions, decapitation, electricuted, lethal injections, but I always find that gas my favourite." simply the best, I just hope the sequal is being made.
Suffering is short but amazing game.I am now playing Manhunt, which compare to suffering is longer, but while I play Manhunt, Suffering is still echoing in my brain.

Well to tell the truth Hermes indeed has a mysteriously scary voice...

But the most freakin' monster in the game is Fester, the slave master the belly of which is full of stinking rats! a nasty idea indeed... and fit for a game like this... A+ for the story and character writers...

And my favorite quote ever is from this game...:
-AN EYE FOR AN EYE MAKES THE WHOLE WORLD BLIND-

reply

Yeah I agreed with you that the Fester is one mother f@@ker with a lot of fire rats coming out from the belly, but to kill Fester is easy, I always using a short-cut, by giving them a bunch of molotov cocktails , after a few then they will lay down in peace. Man the first time I follow the inmate to the beach I have no idea how to kill them so i used all my ammos. , then after entered the sewer and speaks to Horase (the electric guy), maybe 30 of those stinking rats rushing at me which left me totally stunned.
another place which is quite scarry, the girls, with the doll. I really doesn't like the girls appeared in this messed-up island. They are just freaking weird .

Ever notice how Hermes Haight's voice and look is pretty similar to Goose? The Nazi guy who gets killed off in the beginning?

Killjoy was a sadistic guy and they did a good job with the whole 16mm film look.

The Infernas freakin' peeved me off. Every time, they'd just come out at the wrong places and I'd have to fight them over and over again! I really enjoyed their back story too.

reply

Hey there Mess_up Titanic, yeah I agreed, just one thing tho, you know about the back story of those infernas? I was too concentrated on my playing+ and English aren't my first language , I didn't know why those little children ....i mean demons are children in disguise. since you know the backstorey wants to explain why?

reply

The infernas were originally three little girls during the time the whole 'burning of witches ' was going on. They accused thirteen innocent people of being witches. Either this is retribution kicking in, or they were the real witches.

And yes, they were pains in the butt. I found the groundlings(forgive me, I can't remember the name) to be the hardest though. Most of the time I had the volume low and screen dark, so I didn't see them when they slammed out.

Haight reminded me a LOT of the charact Raines from a show called The Pretender. Voice, appearance(assuming his gas form is similiar to his human form) and attitude wise.

Killjoy was still my favorite though. Pure, simple, classic mad doctor. My favourite. ^^

It wasn't the "burning of witches time" it was the pilgrim times, and they didn't accuse 13 people, they accused eleven. Sorry to correct, it's just in my nature.

reply

No problem, thanks actually. And pilgrim times, salem burnings - you know, tomatoe tomatao, yes? I wonder where the hell I got thirteen from though. o.o

Anyone else find The Ring references odd?

reply

I'm afraid that correcting is in my nature too. So just to let you know that witches weren't burned in Salem they were hung.
And I don't think the girls were witches. I think that, like the slave traders, they were getting what they deserve.

Life is like a vending machine, sometimes no matter how much you put into it you still get nothing

reply

I don't recall anyone saying the girls were witches. They were just three little brats who had a creative way of getting rid of the people they didn't like. Just like the Marksman and Festers, they represent the whole history of themselves.

reply

those girls accused 11 people

then they mysteriously disappeared

i heard theres a flashback where torgue see's them jump off a cliff, is this true, i dont remember seeing that.

reply

[deleted]

man i didnt see that, i remember walking to the docks but didnt see this flashback

did i do something to change it?

maybe i freaked out there was a flashback and started running around in different positions looking for a monster so i can get ready i guess i didnt see it

so why would those girls kill themselves, guilt?

reply

"So just to let you know that witches weren't burned in Salem they were hung."

Only the men were. Everyone else was hanged. :P

I think Simon Templeman (From the Legacy of Kain series) or Michael Madsen would make a pretty damn Good Hermes.

Looking back on this game after playing a second time, I agree with you. Hermes was the most sinister, chilling, menancing and toughest enemy in this game. He's a great character. His first appearances are really great. And it's all telegraphed well in advance that he is going to be one of the "boss" enemies. It was nice to have a "boss" character who wasn't there just for the end fight. I only wish more main enemies like this were in the game. Killjoy was good as well IMO. But I still left wanting more.
