I completely agree with you. I thought it was a good film despite EEGs influence (whenever this 'company' make a movie they need to include a certain number of their starlets in it). It was well received both here in Hong Kong and in other Asian countries.
I was so surprised by all the bad reviews, but a lot of them seem to be from die-hard minority of fans who were disappointed with the lack of fight scenes. I liked his old movies too, but I don't expect him to make them again. If I want to see a new movie like that then I'll see a Tony Jaa film. Jackie did a good job, and judging from the ratings on here most people agree.
If you just looked at the comments on this forum then you'd think this movie was 1-2/10 at most, but as of today 72% of voters on IMDB have given the movie between 7 and 10 out of 10. That's a good result in my book.
I'd be more than happy to see a sequel.
