First Police Story is Chan's best!

reply

I agree
but New Police Story is like #2

#1 Legend of Drunken Master
#2 New Police Story
#3 Police Story 1
#4 Rumble in the Bronx
#5 Police Story 3 Super Cop

reply

Not a bad top-5 but I'm missing:
- Wheels on Meals,
- Who am I? and
- Project A.

This movie was the best drama-action I've seen by Jackie but doesn't make it to top-5 since I prefer Jackie to stay away from drama ;-)

reply

No way!! I admit this film is great but its a poor Jackie Chan film.

It was more drama than action and what action there was, was tame. I'm not dissing Jackie Chan here - I'm a HUGE fan - but I think he is starting to get "too old for this s***" and he knows it. He uses wires for most shots now, the stunts are tame and even his back kick sucked. He moves well for his age, don't get me wrong - but beating that young guy just seemed impossible. Jackie Chan is amazing but I don't know how much longer he can survive on screen, I think soon he should go behind the camera only. He's a good comic actor, but he's not a good enough actor to be taken seriously. I guess it's not so much that he's a poor actor- its probably a subconscious thing - everyone knows Jackie Chan for comedy and its gonna stick that way now.

Comparing this film to some older films, it didn't matter if the story sucked - the stunts and action sequences were enough. The Project As, the original Police Story series, the Armour of Gods - watching those movies there's only one word you need to describe them "wow" or I guess for some it might be "no way" "wtf?!" and, like my dad "he's CRAZY!!!" Now in watching this film I don't get the same buzz or excitement. Why do people have to get older :'o(.

Still - this movie was GREAT. Do NOT get me wrong, I liked it. I just don't think its Jackie Chan's best at all. There's far too many others with amazing stunt sequences to choose from!

This is a great Jackie Chan film, if you say no, you're not a Jackie Chan fan.

reply

Have you seen every Jackie Chan movie though? There's a fair few that I'd class better than this. Jackie is still one crazy SOB but his body won't let him be crazy enough :op.

And I am indeed a huge fan, I met Bradley James Allan and I acted like an eegit!! In fact, right now I'm sitting in a Jackie Chan tshirt I got for my birthday!!!

i like 'City Hunter'. If you're chinese, you've probably seen it. it's sooo stupid, but so hilarious.

reply

Dude - that movie ROCKED!!! I loved the whole street fighter bit where they become like every street fighter character! HILARIOUS!

reply

I absolutely loved this movie, even got into me top ten movie rankings. This movie is really great, although I admit, it's probably not THE best jackie chan movie.

reply

This movie is really special, and i agree it is one of Jackie Chans' best!

reply

i think the film was brilliant, not too macho, and not too soppy.
i loved the whole idea of how he was getting more into the swing of being a cop again and getting his life back whilst everything was going on.

nicholas tse and jackie chan are an eXcellent team in movies
the young, cool cop and the old wise cop!

reply

I haven't seen all Jackie Chan movies, but many. And in my opinion "Rumble in the Bronx" is the best. The plot is awesome, the action is good and the stunts are great.

reply

what the, i agree to the first reply
"best film since who am I" xD

but with it being the best..
this film was totally outdone by the first 3 Police Story films

If anything, it was as good as Police Story 4 .... <.<

And the best Jackie film ever is Miracles
cause it is his favourite film he had done :D

I'll agree with you in some ways but not others. I will agree that this is far from one of Jackie's best roles, and frankly I don't think he fits in all that well - especially for his character. However, I will say that apart from that, he handled it well, and this is one of the best films that he has been in.
I think I feel that the movie was too heavy for someone like Jackie to carry on his own. I think it would've been better if he played someone like a cop ending his career soon and was dragged into this bloodbath rather than being a hero that fell a year before.
Seeing Jackie always invites fun, and I felt that there really wasn't any room for fun in this movie - it was a well-made climactic movie, and it's hard to try to bridge the gap. I sorta felt that way with Jackie's introduction in 'Who Am I?', as it was dark and mysertious and then suddenly he shows up - I felt like I suddenly started watching another movie. True, he worked well for 'Who Am I?' in the end - here I didn't think his personality went well. That and he was a very irate and upset man here, which I didn't think worked as well either.
I do, however, give props to Benny Chan- very good stylistic and climactic effort on his part!

You're kidding, right?

Either that or you haven't seen the film! It was dull and lame... I've seen better!

reply

every1 and his own opinion

all Chan's work is great. all his movies are awesome, its just that some are better than others :) this one is the diffinitely the most dramatic role to date...

Funniest Chan Movie: City Hunter
Best Fighting: Drunken Master 2
Best Movie - hard to say i like em all :D

reply

I agree with ar-pi. You can't compare all of his movies and say this is the best. there are funny movies and seious movies and you gotta differentiate. I think this movie was great. But Jackie Chan isn't as young as he used to be anymore ;). I mean, of course he can't fight like an 25 year old kung fu actor. He IS old. But in this movie the dramatic aspect was much more important. this movie had a real story and i liked the flashback at the beginning and the short ones later.
So, no doubt, this movie was great. but great as a movie and not great as a fight movie or a comedy or what you wanna call it, IT JUST WAS A GREAT MOVIE!

reply

His age always comes into everything for 52 year old man who to be honest doesnt not look that old, who can move like he does is amazing. If any of you who says his age shows, try doing it when your all 50+ i'll give you a penny if you can!

reply

all his hong kong movies are all pretty good, but the hollywood ones suck, the only decent ones were the the 2 rush hours

I thought it was a good movie, but not great. Production value was higher than many HK movies I have seen, but the villains really were kind of unbelievable for me.

I must say, I had my doubts when early in the film he was walking down the street drunk, but the scenes where he is crying, especially in the competing police officers office were very realistic. He really acted as though he was tortured by it all. It made me curious to see what he would be in a dramtic role that doesn't depend on action pump it up. I admit, I kind of like the goofy funny side, but would enjoy seeing him in something purely dramatic.

reply

I realy liked the Movie, Too bad they didn't release it in US with English Voice Overs or somthing, even on the DVD.

reply

If you want to see a more dramatic Jackie, check out "Crime Story," "Heart of Dragon" and uh... I wanna say "The Burning Island" or "Island on Fire" or something like that... it should be under his filmography. The US version is called "the Prisoner" but it gives you the wrong idea, because the dvd cover only has his face on it, when he's only a supporting role, but good dramatic movie, and it has a very unexpected ending. Don't watch that crappy english-dubbed version, though.

reply

Shinjuku incident
Jackie in dramatic role, and without fighting (good fighting, he is noob)

Very good movie, and jackie is great

reply

I am of Spain where she has still not been released
I have many desire to see it

reply

>I am of Spain where she has still not been released

in the US it has not been released yet and apparently it will not be released (maybe to DVD). you are lucky to be in spain! just wait a couple of weeks that's all!

reply

Apparently you're not from HK and you haven't seen Jackie's greatest action comedies in the early 80's.

Let me recommend some to you: Project A 1+2. Police Story 1+2. Twinkle Twinkle Stars. Wheels on Meals.

Don't say that this is his greatest till you have seen ALL of the above. Thanks.

reply

agreed, I would probably Say Wheels on Meals is up there as one of his best. However with NPS, the best way to sum it up is "best movie in a long time" But not "best movie"

oh and did I see someone say they SHOULD have had. . english voice overs? eww. . .why would you want that?? :(

reply

This is a very good movie. Jackie chan does a respectable perform. An 8.
