Roger Ebert can eat me.

Ebert has been quoted saying video games are not and never will be art.

I'de like to hear him say that after experiencing Fatal Frame 2.

I'll tell you where he can put his thumb.

Yes, well I doubt a film critic like Ebert would like to admit that another medium might one day put his chosen industry out of business. I'm a staunch believer that a well written, properly produced videogame can be just as artistic, probably even moreso, than your average art-house offering. Take Ico and Shadow of the Colossus for example.

I don't think that Project Zero is really an artistic game, but it sure does tell a cracking story (albeit with some occasionally hammy dialogue), and the atmosphere is suitably terrifying. Hell, PZ even makes a granny with a stroller *beep* scary in the third installment.

"I am sure that Mr Lucas is doing it only for artistic reasons." JK Rowling on Star Wars prequels.

I have a very strong opinion on old hacks who pretend to be critics. Roger Ebert, David Stratton, Margeret Pomeranz... These guys are hacks, and I mean seriously. They complain endlessly about the lack of intelligent films in cinema, but when mainstream movies come out that makes the audience think, and usually takes them outside their comfort zone, these pathetic excuses for critics claim it 'doesn't make sense' and has 'no internal logic'. Even though they're quick to praise and David Lynch film that comes out *Epic rolling of eyes*
