It's not a matter of an empathy. This is a very important, though a bit one-sides analysis.
Therefore, I partially agree with him. Because I've seen too many persons doing nothing to avoid earning any money that could be taken and given to former spouse. On the other hand, I've seen also too many persons doing nothing just to stay in position that demands the former spouse to pay.
So, as a conclusion - modern laws stimulate people not to work, to stay unemployed, and often due to these laws we have two unemployed (can I say lazy?) people because the one that is supposed to pay won't work to avoid payment (if he/she loved the former spouse he/she wouldn't divorce) and the other won't work not to lose the right to be payed, because even if former spouse doesn't want to do it the social service will have to...
Of course, this can't be an excuse for a murder (but if one of these people wants to break any connection with former life killing the other one seems to be an obvious way out if your mind works on a psychopath level), however it can lead to gaining more and more social problems...
