How did women react to this at first.?

My question is, How did the public ( especially women ) react to this story when the news first broke? When they saw a handsome face did they believe automatically he was innocent? I'm asking about back when the story first broke about his wife's disappearance , were women sympathetic with him? If yes, Would they have been so if he were less attractive? And if he Scott were fat and bald would they have called him guilty from the 'get-go'?

He's not handsome in the least. I just never thought so. I remember when the story broke. I think I may have pitied him. It seemed like a witch hunt. But the more he talked, it seemed the more something was off.

I remember a female Juror proclaiming he was very attractive and that it made it hard to focus on the trial. *facepalm*

I cried when I first heard. I thought she left at first. Then I thought her husband killed her and I remember thinking he was so ugly and creepy looking.
