UK viewer, never heard of Laci

I just saw this movie and I don't understand how he got convicted without any evidence?

reply

I feel the same. I never heard of Laci either, I live in UK too. I only watched it because I like Dean Cain, but i didn't understand if he did it or not, he must have if he got the death penalty.

i wish they wouldnt make movies about peoples real life experiences, their private and im sure the families dont wanna be reliving that. it WAS a good movie however but still got a little confused at the end, Dean Cain's movies do sometimes leave you a lil confused, lol. But he's cool.

If you knew the whole story you'd understand. He is scum.

There was plenty of evidence - physical & circumstatial. Check out the full story at http://www.courttv.com/trials/peterson/evidence3/

HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED IF EARTH IS ANOTHER PLANET'S HELL?

reply

Right before the verdict was reached, I remember watching the "experts" talk about whether or not he would be found guilty. There was one guy who was great. He gave a quick synopsis of his reasons why he'd be found guilty, and why he would be found not guilty. When pressed, he paused for a long time and said, "Well, I think he'll be found not guilty". They read the verdict, and he was pretty much the first one to talk. "Yeah, I can see that as well".

That's how he was convicted with no evidence. He looked guilty, he was a jerk, the jury flipped a coin.

Scott was judged and convicted by the press. The Modesto police was a total failure not having solved other similar crimes with young pregnant women. This time there was a husband so they just pinned it on him. YES Scott was convicted WITHOUT any evidence. Dont bother to read or watch CourTV. It's the worst type of jornalism possible. Totally biased AGAINST whoever they think will give them good ratings.

THANK GOD you don't live in the US or your life could turn up side down because of the "liberty of speach" that TV and written press has in that country.

In Brazil where I live, NO CRIME is debated on television or the media in general. The news only says (when it does) that someone was found dead. When (or IF) a case is solved, the press gets all the information. Before it is solved, or if it never is solved, NO ONE is accused, judged or convicted by the media like they did with this man. IF a person is missing, ONLY the police and the families know about it. The press never interfers with the investigation. The citizens only forma an opinion about the "suspect" when the police has evidence against him and calls a press conference to show what evidence it is. Never a person will be judged (let alone convicted) by reporters here.

I think this kind of circus should be prohibited. Period. That way MAYBE innocent people will STOP being convicted in the American judicial system.

The Scott Peterson case is the proof that this exagerated and distorted "liberty of speach" given to the press in crime cases is totally WRONG and should be stopped for the safety of everyone.

At any moment if you live in the US you can be accused, judged and convicted of something you didn't do... just because TV networks such as COURTTV want their ratings to go sky high.

Hmmm... Well, as someone from Modesto, let me assure you, Laci was the only pregnant dead woman that had shown up dead around that time. Believe me, Modesto is a pretty small city, if there was a string of pregnant women being murdered it would have been all over the front page of The Modesto Bee (our newspaper.)

Although I do agree, the media can play a role in how someone is judged, and I agree with the system you described in Brazil, there is too much evidence, both circumstancial and physical to deny Scott's guilt. He deserved the guilty sentence and he deserves the death penalty, just as he got.

reply

I second it, I have been around her for 10 years and the only other crimes around here that got national attention were the murder of Chandra Levy because of her romantic ties with Gary Condit and they found the wallet of the Yosemite woman within Modesto city limits. I think that was the Staynors (sp?) case.

reply

I personally believe that Scott was guilty but I was pretty shocked about the verdict. Because the American system says that to be guilty under crimial court, the evidence has to be "beyond a reasonable doubt"-- that means you have to be utterly and totally sure.

Maybe I missed something, but all the evidence was more speculation - such as his affair, him having the money and dying his hair etc. While these all add up to his guilt, to me, they are not hard facts.

I totally agree that cases should not be covered by the media.

I have to envy you for living in such a country, because it seems that the number of places like the one you live in decreases year after year.

We, people who live in mental, cultural and political colonies of USA, like more and more European countries, can't share your luck.

Brazil's prevalent violent crime is nothing to envy. Corruption is rampant. You might find it a bit too harsh compared to your maligned "mental, cultural and political colonies of USA". But to each his own.

Consider yourself lucky. In this country if you're white, nice looking, and female you get big, big press. If you are male, minority, old, or not so pretty, then you get bupkis (nothing). We were saturated with this story, while other people, young, old, not so pretty, male, and non-white were murdered and didn't get any press. Not to take away from the loss of anyone's loved one, but their are other suffering families that might benefit from national press as well.
