Citizen Kane?

This movie is so bad, it makes Scary Movie look like Citizen Kane. Seriously, I hate a spoof that doesn't trust it's audience to get what it's spoofing. The movie is so self aware that it kills any chance of it being funny. I don't need to be told that the movie is spoofing "Pi", okay? Especially not by the character himself! Why would that be funny? The Amelie character falls in love with an answering machine. Gee, what genius. If a Wayans brother put that in a movie we'd all be grilling his ass on these boards. Well the same goes for Chris Gore. I like him, but this movie is dreck. It deserves to be shunted off into movie limbo, never to be seen or heard from again except as the obscure answer to a trivia question.

Boo-hoo, you didn't like the movie. Go cry somewhere else. It's old already.

Brilliant post. I'll go about posting nothing but undeserved praise for this movie now because, as you say, it's old to do otherwise. I guess that's the reason why anybody would praise this flick.

I was commenting on the stupidity of your post, but you were too dense to get that either. EVERY spoof is self-aware, buddy. That's the whole point. Also, have you actually seen Scary Movie? It's one of the most self-aware, self-referential spoofs I've ever seen, and the sequels just go downhill from there. And you think Amelie having sex with an answering machine is stupid? Good! It's meant to be stupid, it's a SPOOF you idiot.

Have you seen ANY spoofs in the last 20 years? Their basically all the same, and I'm not saying that's necessarily a good thing. I say bring back the days of Airplane, Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles. But those days are over pal, and I've gotta call bullsh*t when anyone tries to put Scary Movie on a pedestal when that movie is partly responsible for destroying the spoof genre.

Yeah, because if a movie makes a lot of money then it must be good, right? And a low IMDB score MUST mean the movie sucks, right? That argument doesn't even warrant a response. And let's not forget that Scary Movie and it's sequels, and most spoofs made in the last 10-15 years have gotten dismal reviews. Check out Date Movie's reviews. They're worse than MBFIM. Same goes for Scary Movie 2, and it made a ton of money. Same goes for Spy Hard. Your argument has no basis in logic.

First of all, MBFIM didn't make any money at the box office because it didn't have a real theatrical release. It screened in a few cities on one screen in each city for one week to support the DVD release. That's it. So it seems unfair to compare that to the 3000+ screen release pattern of a movie like Scary Movie. You chose to compare it because of your irrational hatred of Chris Gore or Film Threat or Eric Campos, but your argument is simply false.

Also, MBFIM hasn't received ONLY negative reviews. As I stated before, almost every spoof in the last 15 years has received generally bad reviews. MBFIM is not an exception. Date Movie, Scary Movie 2, Spy Hard and many other spoofs received WORSE reviews. Others like Not Another Teen Movie received equally bad reviews. Look it up and you'll see. But you're clearly more interested in spewing bile than speaking intelligently about anything.

PS- I'm not Eric Campos. I don't work for Film Threat. You just make yourself look more idiotic by falsely identifying me as someone else simply to bolster your weak argument.

Spoof movies like Scary Movie weren't particularly good, either, because it also spent way too much time telling the audience the joke rather than letting us figure it out for ourselves. I never said SM was good, only that by comparison to MBFIM it looks great.

There's a difference between a stupid joke and a funny one. This movie doesn't seem to get that. Amelie falling in love with an answering machine? Why would that be funny? What's it saying about the Amelie movies that we're supposed to get and recognize as funny? I mean, it's a spoof, right? Most good spoofs find something in the source material that can be exploited or taken from a different angle to be made comedic, but MBFIM doesn't do any of that. It doesn't really do anything. Oh wait, it always makes sure to tell us exactly what we SHOULD be laughing at in each scene. That's brilliant.

Of course you're entitled to your opinion, but allow me to point out a couple of things. I thought the scenes with Amelie and the answering machine were funny, especially Jason Mewes' performance, which is the perfect counter-balance with the Amelie girl. I saw it as a clever mixing of themes from those two movies, something most spoofs don't bother to do anymore. It's also a great stab at how lame the original character of Amelie really is when you look at it in that context (moping around feeling sorry for herself, trying to do good deeds etc), so in essence that in itself is a parody.

For someone who doesn't like movies to explain it's jokes to you, this is one joke you obviously didn't get. Sounds like you NEEDED that joke explained to you. Seems like the jokes they didn't explain went right over your head.

Please let me know if there's anything else you need clarification on. I'm here to help.
