i love independent and foreign films. but this movie was funny. it was not the funniest movie ive ever seen. not by far. it did exactly what it set out to do which is make fun of independent films.

i think film snobs just dont have a sense of humor. i guess if they did they wouldnt be film snobs

I just think spoofs are getting old. I mean, Date Movie was mildly funny... but it just wasn't worth seeing or interesting at all. It's just not the kind of humour people are looking for anymore.

Movies on IMDB are not overrated, you're just of the minority that doesn't bloody LIKE THEM!

reply

oh. please. so you enjoyed it...doesn't mean anyone who didn't is a snob...

I think most people expected it to be good, or at least decent because it parodying some good films...but I mean, I agree with what someone said about making fun of pi and expecting it to be funny, it's pointless....

not all parodies are funny simply because they're parodies.

I don't understand why people can't give an opinion about a film or celebrity without bashing others who don't share their opinion...

this film is stupid and beyond unfunny, but hey, I'm glad you enjoyed it...

I don't think the guy has ever really seen an independent film, everything he says is wildly mislead and stupid. He tries to play off as though every indie movie is unbelievably cliche' when it's quite the opposite, as if torturing cops to music (which wasn't exactly relevant needless to say ironic) is some sort of cliche' throughout the the indie film nation. When it's only really done that way in one movie...Reservoir Dogs. YOu can do other things to make fun of indie, but calling it cliche' is pure nonsense.

I thought it was mildly funny, but only if you've seen the movies. I probably liked it more than most because I think "Pulp Fiction" is overrated and "Amelie" irritated me, so the parody of these two films worked for me. David Lynch is an obvious target, so the "Mulholland Drive" stuff was fun. But if I didn't know beforehand that this itself was an indie movie, I would have sworn it was done by a director who does Hollywood movies teenage boys because of all the juvenile sex and toilet humor.

I watch indie and foreign films all the time. I loved this film and I think it was unsuccessful because it caters to a very slim demographic: people who enjoy indie flicks and people who enjoy this kind of humor.

date movie was the worst movie on the planet. This movie at least was making fun of decent movies, although the pulp fiction and we are so awesome at making fun of independent movies spoof killed it, date movie sucked. This movie was a step above, but not by much.

Sorry I don't usually bring up people's signatures cause I know they're generally lightehearted, but please reassure me you don't believe this 100%? I mean do you honestly believe that 'The Dark Knight', a COMIC BOOK MOVIE which spent weeks as the IMDb #1 Film of All Time (and is still in the top 5), wasn't overrated?

You do understand that the rating system of IMDB doesn't work well with a small number of votes? Obviously when the film came to theaters it was seen only by people who wanted to go see it, and those people obviously liked it. With that in mind YES the movie deserved to be up there since it was one of the best blockbusters that came around recently. And you looking down on a movie because of the source material is ridiculous, a lot of big movies are made by first making a graphic novel of the script, and it's a proven technique; only this time it was done the other way around. So yes, I think maybe you have a problem with your judgement, not the millions of people that judged that the movie did what it was supposed to do - entertain them.

reply

I actually totally agree with you.

I've always thought independent movies deserved at least the occasional tongue-in-cheek parody. I've often dreamed of doing a parody of them myself. I'm just glad someone had the courage (cojones) and imagination to do it finally. (Apparently by a professional film critic too I believe - someone who would know about these movies). It's a subject that hasn't been handled much at all previously.

And you're also right that the so-called "cinephiles" who lambasted this movie for daring to poke fun at their beloved little cinematic darlings ***really*** need to get a life. (What??? "Blasphemous"???? Come on, that's **so** precocious! Bit too affected, aren't we? Taking things a bit **too** extreme? These aren't exactly the Cure for Cancer or the Second Coming y'know.)

Ifsomeone can name me another movie that handles the same subject better, I would ****LOVE**** to see it.

Yeah, LIVING IN OBLIVION is a good indie film parody, as well as THE BIG PICTURE, and possibly IRMA VEP and DAY FOR NIGHT.

On the one hand, the film's not that great. On the other hand, it does have some genuinely funny moments in it. I'm torn where to rank the movie myself, but I could see why people wouldn't like it. Anyone who says "worst movie ever" tends to be the likes of which haven't seen that many movies to begin with and can easily be disregarded.

At the very least, it was miles better than Date/Epic Movie.

I'm not exactly sure who these "film snobs" are, but I know I am not one! I enjoy a wide variety of movies, and I have a very wide range when it comes to my sense of humor. This film didn't get one real laugh out of me! I think I smiled a couple of times toward the end, and that's about it! A lot of the humor falls terribly flat, and several of the gags/jokes seemed forced and unnecessary. The first half of this spoof/parody film was almost numbing. I was totally expressionless during the first half. It picks up during the second half, but I don't think the second half can save the film as a whole. I originally thought "Shriek...If You Know What I Did Last Friday The 13th" was the worst spoof/parody film I had seen, but this one takes the cake! I don't blame the actors, because I think they did a fine job with what they had to work with. I blame those who wrote, produced, and directed it for not getting more people involved with the writing process. Maybe then more quality ideas and humor would have been added.
