One of the best animated movies I've seen

Monster House has to be one of the best animated movies I have seen since Monsters Inc and Ice Age, it was well structured, very consistant, had a good story and had me thoroughly engaged, wonderful peice of work. I usually am more the person who likes the furry animated movies, but it goes to show that I can also watch an animated movie with no furry animals and still thoroughly enjoy.

My favorite animated movies are Monster house and Over the hedge. I also like Final Fantasy.

A very good (and dark) story for an animated film and great environmental renders, though the characters looked unfinished -- especially the lack of "realistic" moving hair. Also, the frame rate sometimes didn't appear very smooth at times during complex moving scenes.

But still definitely a very nice animated movie.

I have the same opinion about "MoCap" today as I did about Roto-scope 20 years ago: Fluid lifelike animation means nothing if the acting, writing, editing or directing are crap. The live actors schtick was not edited or incorporated into any coherent preformance for the animated characters, and the facial rigs were rudimentary at best, allowing the animated characters to lapse frequently into their slack-jawed default expressions. (for REALLY good MoCap, look at Gollum, King Kong or Davey Jones in "Pirates"...MoCap was used as a tool in these instances, not a crutch).
If the story were better, if the writing were better, if the preformances were better, (and they weren't by any means all bad) it would have forgiven the incongrous wild gesticulating that was going on. As it was, it struck me as a less palatable version of "Goonies": a lot of hollering and arm waving and running around and not much to hold onto. SONY has done some really fine animated pix (Surf's Up being a shining example), but Monster House is not one of them.

Are you sure? I hated it. I loved Monsters Inc and Ice Age but I certainly could not like this movie. It deserved a score lower than 5, thats for sure. Anyway, what is so special about it? No action, not funny, creepy animation and awful story. But thats what I think, of course different people have different tastes.

"No action, not funny, creepy animation and awful story."

Well, that's your opinion. In my opinion, it's fantastic, mainly because it's something different for kids. All of these animated films, even good ones like Pixar, are just cute animals going around singing Its a Wonderful Life, let's face it. Monster House had a dark, gritty tone about people getting eaten by a house, including kids! And, when you said "no action", did you just miss the entire third act???

I have El Sonoma del Torra de Fiero Syndrome. Be happy you don't. Trust me.

I really do love this movie, it is one of my favorites, I love the characters, everyone was really well cast, I just really like it,
and, as far as being boring and not having action, this movie was made kinda like a horror movie for kids, so that's why is the way it is, if you hated this then, you must hate every horror movie that has suspense on it ever made, you could say the same about something like, Jaws for example, or Alien, I love those movies as well but, is not full two hours of action

I'll look down, and whisper no

Yes, it is indeed a very impressive animated film, despite its unmoral story plot as described as other reviewers. the story has full of grip with suspense and horror. Every character looks like real with thier expression. This is no.1 animation work and very rare animation movies reach to this quality. I recommend
this animation film for every child.

Yep, I thought this was extremely well done. Great animation (and I'm not a huge fan of mo-cap) which still looked like animation and not a creepy not-quite-human-not-quite-animated look.
