the husband is saying "I won't let anything happen to you..." while kids are throwing rocks at his wife!!!!! The line "their just kids" to excuse their behavior was a big cop out. What a crappy husband!

They were eggs, and he was just trying to calm her down saying that kids don't know any better. His wife obviously had anger issues (not her fault) and was prone to rage. He had to try and placate her somehow.
