What year is this movie set in?

Watched this tonight with my 9 year old. He didn't know what a pager was. Seems that this movie was set 10-15 years ago. The old cordless phone, cassette deck and arcade game etc

Omg yes, I was watching this with my brother, were over 18 mind you, but it's just one of our favorite Halloween movies and we enjoy watching it for fin. lol But yeah, it seems very early 80s, so that's like more than 20 years ago. The deputy's afro, the cassette player and arcade game as you mentioned, the girl next door pigtells that Jenny has, the safe vibe you get from the people living in the neighborhood. And that family station wagon the parents drove away in too. That's something I love so much about the movie, it's a horror movie taking place in one of the best time periods where horror movies were a big thing.

Yeah it is weird to place. Clothes could be 70s or 80s. Cassette tapes so 80s-90s. Cars look like anything from 60s to 80s. Music Zee listens to is 90s-ish and she dresses in 90s grunge as does Bones. DJs room has a massive mid 80s feel to it. Neber says he and Constance have been living like that for 45 years. Looks like it was WWII that he served in so it would make it the 90s. But it could have been WWI and building the house in the 30s which again would make it the 80s.

I would have to guess mid to mid/late 80s. So around 87

I believe it's set in the early 80s when writers Dan Harmon and Rob Schrab were kids.

I'm guessing 80's and mostly because of that arcade game. That was a very obvious element that they even partially put on the cover.
