Discussing about authenticity!

I'm reading a lot of discussions on this board, but all in all I cannot agree with most of the statements.
I mean this is a teenmovie, some people deal with it as if it was a Bergman or something. What dialoges do some people expect when teenagers are talking.
In this regard it was authentic indeed.
Before I watched this movie I had read somme comments thus I was actually biased. Anyway I liked the movie cause it reminds me strongly to my social surroundings.

On the other hand there are movies which nobody dares to critize. For example Citizen Cane. Maybe some people want to sound mature and intelligent when they critize teenmovies.
For instances: I think Road Trip is a good movie, if you regard it as a movie which is supposed to make you laugh and have a good time. When I watch movies like "Karakter (NL, 1997)", I have totally different measures.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?

reply

The critics sound very much like insecure kids. Which they probably are.

reply

The movie is exaggerated. Way exaggerated. But it's good.

It's a bit difficult for me to debate the dialogue at this point because I only watched the Italian-dubbed version of the movie (speaking from Malta here).

The way it was dubbed in Italian made it sound pretty brilliant. That said Italian dubbing is rarely done badly (in my view anyway) so it's hard to judge. Personally I enjoyed this movie. It wasn't absolutely brilliant but I've seen far worse teen-drama-comedies.

I liked this movie very much. i don`t know what `AlmostUnknown` means when he says that it`s exaggerated, because in my opinion the whole story is quite realistic. of course there are girls who are groped by pubescent, childish boys. at our school that happens every day. and just imagine someone shows nude photos of you in the whole school and tells everyone you`re a bitch, then it`s hardly surprising that your reputation is ruined. especially when you`re new at a school.
but i found it so great how Sophie managed it all at the end. and the ketchup-bottle-gag was simply hilarious! *lol*

As a student on a Swedish school, and in the same age as the main characters:

This movie is real as can be. Trust me. At least half of the kids are like that. Fjortisar.

I didn't have a problem with the dialog. I thought it felt pretty realistic. But the movie isn't terribly original and the ending felt forced. I think F-ing Åmål is much better.

"What does it do?"
"It doesn't do anything. That's the beauty of it."

It was real enough, until the turning point, which you may or may not like, but I guess it was supposed to be cathartic. If you like realistic, *beep* Amal is the way to go.

"What dialoges do some people expect when teenagers are talking."

Even if crap is supposed to be crap it doesn't matter, it's still crap. This movie was not realistic and it was stupid of them to cast an 18 year old as a 13 year old.

This movie is built on them being 13 but still nobody acts as if they are.

reply

Are you from sweden?
Because I am, and I think it is realistic as hell. I see a lot of difference from how people are in sweden and in USA for an example. I would never think of 13 years old from USA acting like this.

I have went to a "high school", and I have been to many to as a lecturer in differente things too. I'm only 20 now, but it feels like it is this way. That it is realistic.

They feel like normal 13-15 years old. Not all people act like that, but you see them in every school.

(oh, and I'm from Sweden so sorry if my english sometimes sucks)

I discovered this after watching the famous "ketchup scene".
So, I thought it was a sort of teen movie like "American Pie": instead, it turned to a very tragic story.
This just to say that mixing up comedy and tragedy in this case was not good.
