Was Billy Bright's dad a Neo-Nazi?

I think so.

reply

No he was not a Neo-Nazi! He was a skinhead, there's a dramatic difference. Skinheads were disillusioned people who didn't hate other races but rather those who they felt were a threat to their proud culture which very often included white English. You should watch 'This is England' it's basically a demonstration of the anger towards the Thatcher administration.

We can't make you do anything, but we can make you wish you had!

Yeah well I already Saw This is England before.

Well if you had read my post correctly you'd see what I stated chasing the neighbours away was about.

Good guys may not finish last but they sure as sh*t don't finish first!

Look, skins who feel white British/English culture is under attack and run about chasing foreigners are neo-nazis, or at the very least inclined towards far-right opinions, whether you like it or not.

reply

To be honest it's purely inconsequential to me I don't intend falling out over it but I disagree. 'This is England' deals with the point I'm trying to make.

Exactly, the scene makes it quite clear that Bright's father is a racist skinhead and member of far right organisation, the National Front through his physical appearance and statement to the Asian neighbours: "I'll fight every one of you before I let you move in".

Amazing that anyone could actually disagree about this lol... However, just for the sake of pedantry, let's explore it... Remember that the judge remarks after Billy's arrest that he's almost 40, which makes him born in 1964/65. This means the flashback takes place in the mid 1970s, several years before Thatcher took office in '79.

His behaviour had absolutely nothing to do with the Thatcher era or dissent against her premiership because that didn't take hold till much later and so Billy would've been older in the flashback. As someone who was a child in the 80s, my family and I didn't experience harassment from type's like Billy's dad because they were making a political statement against Maggie, it was because they hated foreigners and supported far right hate groups.

I think I get it now not all bad skinheads are nazis. is that it?

reply

mikeyg24, how could you deduce so much about Bright's dad's character, from a 5 second scene of him beating up some Asian neighbours?

I think you're very confused, and I also don't think you properly understand what This Is England is about either.

reply

Yes I'm the one that's confused. Whatever you want. Sorry I don't deal with retards on IMDb.

Billy Brights Dad was not fond of the asians moving in, he was probably into National front or British Movement politics, its also implied Billy himself was right wing and according to Tommys Grandad Harris was also a fascist.
