meaning and origional manga

Cat Soup is based of manga written by the author Nekojiru. She was quiet, solitary, and diferent. She killed herself In 1998 at age 31. There is a good article on her written by somebody who knew her well. As far as I know none of her origional work has ever been translated into english.

As for the meaning of Cat Soup I figure that the surreal nature of the work is supposed to create a sense of confusion and uncertainty. Of course I don't know what the creators intended and how that relates to what Nekojiru intended with the manga. Overall I think Cat Soup is about the chaos of life and our perception of reality. The anti-heros that we all are and the odd world that we inhabit. However there is definitely an Alice in Wonderland dream world state to it as well. So one could question whether or not much of Cat Soup can even be compared to reality. But then how much order is there really in reality?

If anybody has something to add please do. I didn't write about much here.

thanks for sharing the links. I own anthologies which feature her work: in english. I distinctly remember reading "cat soup" - and it bares many resemblances but it is much shorter. her work was never text heavy, you will discover an enjoyment for her creations even if you cannot understand the language.
