Direct-to-HD Feature 'Bell Witch' Sees Blu-ray, HD DVD Delay

The direct-to-video horror chiller 'Bell Witch: The Movie' has apparently hit a high-def release snag, with the Blu-ray and HD DVD versions receiving a last-minute street date delay.

As first announced earlier this year, 'Bell Witch: The Movie' was expected to debut today, August 15, becoming the first direct-to-video feature film in history to make its premiere in high-definition (a full two weeks before its standard-def DVD debut September 1).

Apparently, however, some other title will end earning that distinction, as we've just received word from indie distributor Big River that both the Blu-ray and HD DVD editions of 'Bell Witch' have been postponed, although the film's planned September standard-def release remains on track.

A new street date for the high-def versions is expected in the near future, but no date has been officially set. As always, we'll keep you posted as as further information comes in.

In the meantime, we've moved 'Bell Witch: The Movie' to the "Release Dates Postponed" sections of our Blu-ray Release Schedule and HD DVD Release Schedule.

***********

Ok, this thing appears to just be a big old turd....They've even changed the production date from 2002 to 2007 because it's been collecting dust for 5 years.

Filmed in 2002....then held for 2 years before this post:....

From 2004: Directed and produced by S. Shane Marr, BELL WITCH was shot with hi-definition 24P technology. Following the agreement, post-production for the film will be moved to Los Angeles for completion, with the theatrical release scheduled for fall of 2004.
While looking for a “good home” for the film, Big River Pictures had several offers for distribution, but ultimately chose Filmmates due to the “impressive background of Filmmates’ leadership.”

From later in 2004: "BELL WITCH: The Movie," a film detailing the legendary 1800s haunting in Adams, Tennessee, is scheduled to premiere in early 2005. www.bellwitchthemovie.com

Moving on to June 21, 2005...a year later:
BELL WITCH: The Movie is a HD Digital Film in 5.01 surround sound, produced and directed by S. Shane Marr and Big River Pictures is being released this September to Digital Cinemas throughout the country.

Flash forward TWO MORE YEARS LATER:
Burbank (CA) - Executives of Big River Pictures and Cinemarr
Entertainment announced today that their first joint feature film, BELL
WITCH: The Movie, will be released to home video via HD DVD, Blu-Ray
and Internet on September 1, 2007.

THIS MAKES ME LAUGH:
Marr, a High Definition purist, says the film's release
was held until HD viewing capabilities were more readily available to
home viewers. "We shot BELL WITCH in 24p 1080 HD back in 2002," Marr
says, "but we decided to hold the film until it could be released in HD
so that people could see it as it was meant to be viewed."

In keeping with Marr's vision of a true High Definition release of BELL
WITCH: The Movie, it will have an exclusive early release this summer
on HD DVD and Blu-Ray (IT DIDN'T!!) prior to its wide release in both HD and Standard Definition in September.
BELL WITCH: The Movie will be available online at Amazon.com (IT'S NOT!!) or you can download it through Unbox onto your TiVo. BELL WITCH: The Movie is also available for home rental at video stores (NOT AROUND HERE IN NASHVILLE, TN!!). Contact your local video store to make sure their supplier is carrying the movie. (THEY'RE NOT!!!)

Give up! Clearly nobody wants anything to do with this movie....no retailers are carrying it, no video stores have it, and it can't even get released on Blu-Ray, which holding it for Blu-Ray is the laughable reason it has supposedly sat around for FIVE YEARS!!!

Now, a hilarious quote on this that I have read:
When Ms. Palmer viewed the film she is quoted as saying, “This is not a stage play, this is not a film, this is a legend that has come to life” with tears in her eyes and a smile on her face she got up from her seat and went to producer/director S. Shane Marr and hugged him and said, “Shane, you have given me the jewel in the crown of my career, I thank you”.

That crown's getting dusty....

BUT THE ABSOLUTE MOST HILARIOUS:

“This property has already generated quite a web and industry buzz, registering over five million hits to its promotional website,” says Goda. “Further,” he continues, “radio stations that program country, bluegrass and Americana music are eagerly awaiting the accompanying soundtrack. I believe this movie will surpass The Blair Witch Project and O Brother Where Art Thou.”

WOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOO! AAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!

I share your frustration. The delays and excuses for delays are laughable. Now they want $30.00 to order it thru the mail!!!!
