This is a profoundly bad movie. How it achieved the rating it has on
IMDB is a greater mystery than anything else in this whocareswhodunnit. The
acting is wooden, the premise is absurd, and it could have been edited
down to about 12 minutes with no loss in continuity.
i don't agree with you .it's not that bad and the acting is ggod; just that some actors are not used properly, like Bruce Boxleitner.also, the plot has some major holeslike the motive of the serial killer which is not sufficiently developped IMHO.
shareHe's a serial killer and doesn't necessarily have a motive! He just sees that these people are evil in his eyes, and is a sociopath who feels they should be killed.
I read the book and it was great, but a lot can get lost from pages to screen because you don't get the exposition. To me, the serial killer isn't really the point of the movie. However, it's the impetus to research into the Ernst's killing specifically since Elroy says he didn't do that one.
I started watching this in the morning and recorded it. Annabeth Gish didn't strike me as being Cynthia Ernst because she was supposed to be the ICE QUEEN and gorgeous, not just pretty (in my opinion).
Totally agree! Although I must admit, I only saw part 2. I tuned in because I am an Annabeth Gish fan, but sadly, Ms Gish couldn't escape the stunningly mediocre acting bug. Tom Berenger and Cybill Shepherd looked about 60!
I guessed the supposedly surprise ending within 3 minutes of the first scene! Appallingly bad..
Too long and boring, and all those leads they followed were so obviously false. I want my stolen 3 hours of life back, dammit.

I hadn't heard of this movie but I had been hoping for a theatrical re-enactment of a bigger scale :|
I agree. The writing is not good. The dialogue is cheesey and unrealistic. I was surprised at how bad this was, given the high quality of actors.
shareJust finished watching it. The end was MAD CORNY, imho. That is all. Oh yeah, and also bad acting by a lot of the supporting cast. I found Robert Wagner's acting to be very good. Annabeth was okay - I feel bad she had to act out such a CHEESEBALL ending. And the movie was a series of detective story cliches. Ok, that is really all this time.

shareTom Berenger did look terrible. It had less to do with how old he looked, by how old he seemed...moving stiffly and appearing at times like his neck had disappeared and he couldn't turn his head. Poor poor man.
shareAgree - would have been better if condensed to one hour by taking the boring slow parts out. Why didn't they fingerprint Doile to compare with his juvie prints? Why didn't they test the hair? Even if the story was meant to take place before DNA existed, forencics still were able to match hair samples.Also, from the beginning they never investigated similarities of the victims - which didn't matter in the end but it should have been done. I thought it the very worst detective work. And because the detective weren't even guarding Doile's house properly, two more people were killer. Maybe the book was better. The only surprise I had was that she had someone else (who was so unstable and unpredictable) do the killing for her - it was obvious how much she hated her parents and it was the perfect opportunity to get someone else blamed. The direction of the acting of the four suspects was terrible. Not one of them could have pulled off such a crime without leaving evidence. Only with her organization over the one she had do it was there no evidence. And how stupid of her to take money out of her own account ! ! !
