Realistic?

Am i the only one who thought that this was not realistic. Im in high school and the partys are nothing like that. If the people in the movie was at my school they would probably be called a slut or a man-slut and hated. Am i the only one who thought that?

In my honest opinion I say yes its very true to life when I was 14 and 15 I was doing stuff just like that I can now say that I was out of control but then I seen nothing wrong with it. I was sleeping around with many girls and even though my mother was strict I still got away with it by skipping school and sneaking out to the partys.I have never had a std thank god but i knew many that did end up getting them and many girl that had kids at 16 I don't think kids think it can happen to them I know that I didn't and although i got lucky I could have very well, been one of the kids with an std or been forced to be a father at a very young age. I am now 22 and when I look back we where just like the kids in this movie we treated sex like it was a game the drug and alcohol were always there.

I loved this movie because its so close to reality I put this with movies like Kids, Thirteen, And Bellyfruit all good in there own rights and all dealing with sex, drugs, and peer pressure and the effects it can have they all have a sense of realism.

Actually, I believe this movie was based on a school in my state, about 20 mins away from where I live. It was the biggest outbreak of Syphilis for the size of the town known. Majority of the school was infected and it made national news.

reply

Where do you live? This sounds like something that went on where I live a few years ago.

reply

I think it was pretty realistic. When I was in high school, around 14/15, my best friend moved to our school and had slept with about 6-7 guys in 3 months. I remember going tomany parties where we all got drunk and fooled around. I didn't get pregnant, but one of my friends did during freshman year. On mondays everyone was talking about who slept with who and who would they want to. SO yeah, I think ti was realistic.

I wish they would make a sequel. It would be interesting to see how they portrayed the kids a few years later.

Hey, I'm a 15 year old guy, and I would have to say that this movie was as real as it gets. Actually, it took what actually goes on down a bit. I'm not involved in any of that stuff, but I know it goes on. Some of my friends even. I know a girl in my school who lost her virginity in the 4th grade.

That's exactly how it was at my school...monday mornings made for great gossip. Or if the weekend was a little rough on ya' you couldn't bare going in on Monday because you would be the main subject du jour. And 6-7 guys in 3 months was normal, as was that many in one night. Avoiding pregnancy is a simple task, but STDs can be a scary thing. Anyone who gets syphilis though should just be really thankful because it could have been much worse.

A sequel would be amazing...or turn it into a lifetime tv series!

It's so realistic in my opinion... Stuff in the movie happens in many highschools..(Peer pressure,sex,alcohol,etc).. It's hard for some people to turn it down becuz they want to fit in with a certain crowd...I'll admit i always try to fit in but i wouldnt do stuff that would make feel uncomfortable i guess its the way i've been brought up becuz i can say no...lol

reply

It's not that bad, but I wouldn't say it's very realistic. Kids have sex, sure, but not the way it's protrayed in the movie: with threesomes and orgies while watching porn. That one girl always seems to have sex with at least two males at once. Most males I know would never have a "mAnage a trois" (the term that is used, not my fault for the bad pun) because that seem be too homosexual to have their exposed genitals that close (the sentiment echoed in Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle). The basic points had validity, but the situations were very overdramatized and the moral message came on a bit strong.

reply

This definitely does happen. I can say that my teen years were much more risque than the portrayals in this film, and yes that includes frequent threesomes and orgies, and all while watching porn-gasp! As you know, some areas are predominantly much more conservative than others, and it sounds like you likely hail from a more conservative region. Many guys are strongly opposed to any activity that could ne considered remotely homosexual, including a menage a trois. A lot of straight men are comfortable enough with their sexuality to not be afraid to push boundaries. In my experience, it tends to be the jocks who partake in threesomes, orgies and gangbanging. The jocks I've known have always been a group of close knit guys who do pretty much everything together, grew up together and will someday be each other's groomsmen. They're so comfortable with each other, that there are no qualms about nudity. Maybe it somehow relates to their showering together, or maybe they just like doing more than just sports as a team :P

reply

I have to disagree with the idea that youth only partake in activities due to peer pressure. I'm pretty sure a lot of teens drink, self medicate and sleep around just for the fun of it. Not everyone wants to say no.

i think it did a good likeness of a realistic that is happening. what i really liked was the parents reaction to the mom who was trying to organize the situation. it really showed different views of what some people say.

i really liked this movie.

I thought what Id do was,Id pretend I was one of those deafmutes.Catcher in the Rye

reply

I thought the movie had the root of it pretty much right. But the party that her mother went to in order to find her was a little exaggerated with the group of people watching the one couple have sex.

"So you just pretend to be an a**hole?"
"It's what I'm good at"

reply

Been there, done that. Again, just because it hasn't happened to you, doesn't mean it doesn't happen at all.

reply

It's not realistic at all. Anyone who says it is has never been to a real party, has never been to a real highschool, or is old and can't clearly remember the good ole days.

Crowds of people do not just stand around watching a couple have sex at highschool parties. That just doesn't happen. Kids don't have giant orgies every night of the week(well, most kids...) 9th graders might have multiple sexual partners, but 20?! Only 4th graders chat like the way they talk online "c u @ N's 2night?"

All of the dialogue was cheesey and written as if it was for a sex ed class (we watched it during health the other day). The scenes with Hannah's mom were beyond hillarious. Where all the girls are making fun of Hannah in the chat room and her mom just goes, "Where is the party tonight?" and someone randomly tells her.

It gets even better when she walks into the party shouting out for her kid like a complete idiot. Then she goes into a room (note: this is a bedroom adjacent to the kitchen in a mansion-sized house?) and just watches a crowd of kids as they watch two of their friends having sex.

Another classic scene is when the three friends are running around and laughing as they're baby-sitting and Dawn just blurts out, "Guess what!? I have syphalis!" I actually laughed throughout many of the "intense" scenes of this movie.

Richard Kletter seems to have had one weird childhood...

Who the hell actually thinks this movie was realistic. Come on.

reply

It's realistic, to an extent. In the sense that there is peer pressure towards sex and that there are some people who have had many partners at a young age. Fortunately, that's about where the realism ends. In my experience, there have always been people who sleep around quite a bit, but this movie takes many experiences and dramatizes them. There are parties where teens do hook up, but the parties aren't massive orgies like they are depicted in this movie. STDs do spread throughout teens, but not en masse like they are at this school. I think the real question should be where do these people live, because apparently they are flooding the water with aphrodisiacs.

BTW cman114 : my friends and i died of laughter at the "I have syphillis" scene. I mean seriously, who in their right mind would do that at that particular moment?

Hello,

While it might seem 'un-realistic' and 'far-fetched', this movie IS Inspired by a TRUE Story of what happened in Rockdale County GA in 1996 where like 200 kids came down with Syphillis. It was Featured on the PBS show "Frontline" and if you want to watch some clips online and see "Miriam's Character" and DJ the REAL person that "Nick" was based on, check it out.

(Also check out the graph that they used to show the STD which is practically Identical to the one used in "She's Too Young")

Please check it out and post back on here on your opinions of it.

Thanks :-)

Yeah, and while Hogan's Heroes may seem "unrealistic" and "far-fetched," it is inspired by true stories of resistance offered by Allied POWs against their Nazi captors during WW2 ...

2 litres of semen ?? Please measure the volume of your/partner's discharge next time, then work out how many men it would require to get a girl to swallow that much. Pretty far-fetched story, methinks.

very true. my school has a high pregnancy rate but it is mostly upperclassmen with their boyfriends. NO ONE is having sex like it is portrayed in the film, even the sluttier ones. and the sluts arnt admired, they are teased and ostracized.

Actually this exact thing happened in 1996 in Rockdale, Georgia. The reason I know this is because I live in Georgia and they bring it up in every sex-ed class since it happened. I am 19 now and I think I was around 10 when it happened. I bet that case is the basis of this entire movie. There are plenty of reports about this incident on the internet, just type in syphilis and Rockdale and it's bound to pop up.
