What was up with the 'hospital'??

Ok, i know this was the ultimate in low-budget production...

But what was up with that "hospital"?
Did i miss something?

I knew it was going to be bad when there was 'Caution' tape all over the entrance...but did any of those characters even pretend to notice they were walking around in a construction/demolition zone??
:O)

This movie was almost textbook as a demonstration of low budget production.
:O)

It's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care.

After Jack and Beth get Sam down from the cross in the cornfield, and she calls Ray, he (Ray) tells her about the trauma center two miles away, which is still under construction, but open.

I'm pretty sure it was all filmed on a college campus. I'm pretty confident that hospital gibberish was a dorm hallway with plastic bags hanging all over the place.

The hospital was really a detention centre in the So cal area.. I met david a few times while he was doing a play in La and he said thats where the hospital, n some of the campus footage was filmed. He also said that it was still active, and held people..the female cast wasn't to be around when they were about and if they were, their revealing clothing was to be covered up

Hey ThoughtPolicman,

I have mixed feelings about responding, because I was on the
crew of this movie (camera assistant). So I am biased, of course.

Certainly it was a low-budget movie. Most of us got paid $50
a day to work on it. It was also a movie which was very profitable
to Lyon Films, the distributor. It was sold before it was even
finished and made quite a bit of money for the producers. Whether
that money was deserved or not is another issue....

The scenes in the hospital, church and several other locations
were filmed in a prison for youth offenders in Whittier, CA. The
prison is California state property, and as such, can be used for
filming as there are many abandoned buildings. The hospital was
actually on old clinic which was dilapidated and falling apart.
Hence all the plastic sheets and caution tapes.

We knew we were working on a C or D movie - it would be a stretch
to call this a B movie. I worked with some really good people on this
shoot, as well as some characters. The DP was quite good, and tried
very hard to produce good footage, but budget constraints made it
difficult. The director, Brian Katkin, was fun to work with and I
never once got the impression that he was trying to take this stuff
seriously. Brian has just finished a film for Roger Corman (Slaughter
Studios) and was very good at sticking to the schedule and not going
over budget. The special effects guy Mark Fenelson was also fun to
work with. The sound recordist had worked on some big films such as
SPIDERMAN, so he was quite good also. Last, but not least, it was
a real hoot to work with COOL BREEZE, the gaffer. He is a legend
already in this town. A real wild man, fun to work with. Always
joking with people ....

I agree with what so many of you have said in this group - it is
a film which is so bad that it is funny. I am very surprised how
many people like it because of that.

The cornfield in the movie was near the Reagan Library in Moorpark,
north of Oxnard. It is only 20 miles or so from the Pacific Ocean.
So, yes there is a cornfield not far from the ocean, which I know
is hard to believe.

Anyway, hope this answers some of your questions about the bizarre
hospital. I think bizarre is a good theme for this movie. Don't take
it too serious. It's a movie that teens might watch on a weekend when
they want to get a little crazy and be normal 18 year olds.

Hm. Thanks for the response, Jerry Murrel. I'll presume you're actually the camera assistant for Scarecrow Gone Wild, because I don't presume many pose as such. It WAS fun to watch. Bizarre IS the right word. When I saw it in the guide window on the bottom of the screen, I knew I was trapped for the next 90 minutes. I would have sworn it was a student film, not to knock it. It was more the cast than anything else. They all looked like college kids... And maybe one professional wrestler. I think I just realized the title is a play on Girls Gone Wild. Am I embarrassed to admit that I just - 1 year later - realized that? Yes. Yes I am.

Was that even a hospital? WTF was it? I cannot express how much this movie sucked.

reply

magdalena, if you think this movie sucked, then you either took it way to seriously, or youhave seen NONE of these bad horror films, there are much much much worse, i promise you. Try watching Mr jingles, or skyggen and you'll be nominating this puppy for an oscar.
