I am one of those people that stop watching when a film becomes unbelievable. Losing the passport (near beginning) was to me at least just not believable. This was used to enable his brother to know that he was at the service. While this may have been wanted for the story, another method could have easily been used.
shareActually I think the Passport scene happened after he slept with the girl at the bar.. Like we see later in the film! (when he met the girl was actually in the beginning) If you get what I mean? that is how it's possible! In case you didn't notice the whole film is like that, and I think it's what makes it so good and special :)
shareRemember that the bar scene is not in every version of the film. I have the region 2 version, and that scene has been cut out. This is probably what caused the OP confusion.
