Matthew Macfadyen

I had this DVD shipped over from New Zealand the other day just because I am a HUGE Matthew MacFadyen fan. I must admit from the trailer i didn't think much but after watching this film i am just mezmorised by the quality of acting from all of the cast, but in particular Matthew MacFadyen.

I cannot imagine how hard it must have been to pull of a character with so many complexities but Matthew does it flawlessly, does anyone else agree?

This film deserved to have a huge release, it's such a shame it didn't.

Emily Barclay's acting was stunning too, hope everyone agrees.

You are so lucky to have your copy, I ordered mine from HMV australia who have failed to deliver.

I rented this from Blockbuster last night, I had wanted to see it at the cinema but just didn't get around to it. Yes, Matt Macfadyen is a brilliant actor, have you seen Warriors? It isn't available anywhere anymore, but I got it from a friend in the UK. I can't wait to see him as Mr Darcy in Pride and Prejudice.

reply

Has it been released in the cinema in the UK yet?

reply

He's a really good acotr...I was amazed by the way he acted in this movie.

reply

The UK cinema release is apparently going to be sometime in June, but don't get your hopes up because they gave it a release date before and totally re-scheduled it

reply

Im sure most of you would have seen Spooks and he's fantastic.
I dunno why australia hasnt shown the 3rd series which aired in the UK in september 2004

SPOOKS SPOILER (SEASON 3)

Pity he leaves the cast. I dont know how and Id rather watch but he didnt want to be stereotyped.

I live in Singapore, where we're lucky to get any quality series from US, Oz or Britain....and only then it's like a year or two late.....anyway, just saw IMFD yesterday - a totally awsome film - absolutely brilliant....and this is the guy's first directed film?

reply

If your in Melbourne - Warriors is available on Video for hire from Video Dogs in Carlton
(no - I dont work for them!)
A great TV movie - about British UN peackeeping forces in Bosnia -starring Charles Dance and Ioan Gruffield as well
MacFayden plays a very different character here - but a great movie nonetheless

I agree with you completely. I kept wondering..."How the hell does he do that?" He was amazing. He looked like walking a tightrope always striking exact balance..never once faltered. He was distant exactly to the necessary degree, he was engaging exactly to the necessary degree, he was likeable exactly to the fine line that makes perfect...it goes on like that. I'm really impressed. And the stubbled look became him well.

I agree, I think MM was spell binding in this film, portraying so much emotion without appearing to act at all, and honey toned voice and the rare occasions he laughs, oh bliss..

reply

I just saw him in Pride and Prejudice (which I have watched about every night since it came out, halfly because of him) he is just so engaging! I fell in love with him, he is gorgeous, but not just that he is a brilliant actor! I have been trying to find 'In My Father's Den', I checked my towns blockbuster and we don't have it, I also checked netflix, columbia house, barnes and noble and amazon... no one has it!!! So I checked ebay and they have a couple people selling it, so I am really really wanting to buy it.... I saw the trailer and wow he looks like he does an amazing job, the movie looks really good. Does anyone else know of where I could buy the movie??

reply

I have also checked Ebay for this film...just be careful...I don't know where you are from, but I'm in the US, and the only DVDs for sale are not compatible with US players. If you are in the US, you'd have to make sure you're playing it on a zone-free DVD player.

I am so frustrated, I really want to see this film but can't figure out how to do so, other than buying a new DVD player.

From what I understand, In My Father's Den is supposed to be coming to the US around May/June time frame in theaters. As far as trying to get it on dvd here in the states, you won't get it.

I had to ask my sister in the UK to purchase a copy for me since I have a multi region dvd player. Hope this info helps:)

http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=5222 says its coming to us in May.....

reply

You're luckier than us in France! Because IMFD wasn't released in my country and it's a shame because it recieved an award and all the people who have seen it say that's a great film!!!
Perhaps after being released in US a DVD (with french subtitle) will exist???!!!

reply

deb_thibout you definately need sub titles, as his voice is soooooooooooo emotionally moving in this film........

reply

I ordered it from amazon uk yesterday as the price had dropped drastically and my dvd player in my familyroom is suppose to play all regions. I can't wait! The book is not available either. Maybe when the movie is released here in the US? I did find a copy for about $30 at Alibris.com.

I agree with you. What a superb actor Matthew is. I love him in this movie.

reply

I totally agree I watched this the other day and now I'm a huge Macfadyen fan. He's a really really good actor. Barclay is amazing as well. It's a really good story.

reply

Yes I agree. I became a Matthew Macfadyen fan after watching Pride and Prejudice, and can't get enough of him since. Luckly for his fans, he chooses his projects really well, I loved everything I saw of him yet. In my father's den was no exception. When you think you cannot fall more for Matthew, you see this. Such a powerful performance, such ethereal beauty, so touching a charm, such sexiness - the list can just go on and on. He's quite unique. Going to London to see him in a play Perfect Nonsense soon, luckly for his fans he performs live theatre!
