What was the meaning in the way the soldiers held their swords?

In HOFD, all of the soldiers would hold their swords behind them as they would move forward to attack. Was this just a stylistic nuance that was used in the movie? I believe I saw one scene in "Hero" that had something similar.

just simply try do it yourself. run while holding a stick in front of your chest, you will find it's hard.
it's better for balance and speed if you hold it belind you, hand level around your waist.
it saves more energe and it's faster. just try it.

me and my sister had the same question. we dont kno what it was but we thought it was so hilarious after noticing it.

It is intentionally stylish, borrowing elements from movements in traditional Chinese operas.

how ignorant can? Do golfers swing the club holding it in the front? Do baseball batters hold he bat forward to hit the ball? Holding the sword back is cocking it back, its readying the weapon to strike!
