I've always wondered about the offense value behind the term "yank". Being British, I've never used it myself.
To my recollection there's an American team named "the yankies". Not that the team associates it self with the word, but if there's any American folk who still use this board, what are your thoughts on it?

Nope. I'm from the North part of America, and people in the south call us "yanks" too. It doesn't have the same effect that other offensive terms have.

The worst thing you can call a white American is white trash. The term white trash on its own is not offensive the way the n word is. However, the person you refer to as white trash might want to fight you.

Nope Americans don't care even if some Brit even when using it in a negative way. American's for the most part don't care if you call them Yank or gringo.
shareAs a American in the South, I find it offensive only in the sense that Yanks to us are those in the Northeast US. Culture in the south is vastly different. I imagine the equivalent would be calling a Londoner a Geordie. Just comes off a bit ignorant.

Americans really don't use the term yanks unless referring to the New York Yankees.
Well, I'm from California, and when someone from the South calls me a Yankee, I know that is not meant as a compliment. But it has never bothered me for anyone from abroad calling us Yanks, I never thought of it as having some sort of insulting connotations.
