The crying scene to me represented the character's sterotypical and wispy mannerisms as portrayed by the usually magnigicent Peter Saarsgard. Yes, it is natural for a person to experience immense grief and sadness when jumping into an intimate experience with someone else after the loss of a partner but the way it was expressed by the character seemed too contrived. Also, Campbell Scott seemed to be going through the motions during the ending scene when he learns of the accident involving his wife and kids.
Also, I really don't feel that a straight woman could have conjured up some of the things that Elaine typed in the chat room. The movie overall could have been so much more.
