Disappointed...a lot...

I was really excited about seeing this. In fact, I was so positive that it would be good, I bought it without seeing it first. Then I took it home and "tried" to watch it. It's one of those movies that you put on, start to watch, and then get up and do things while it's on or start forwarding through it. I was bored beyond belief. And I adore Colin and Salma but I found this movie dull.

Well said. This was just a very bad movie. I couldn't get through all of it. The one thing I will disagree with you on is adoring Colin Farrel. I thought he was terrible in this one as he is in most. Salma, I love, but when she has nobody to counteract, she fails as well.

Me too, could not finish, although maybe tomorrow I will trudge through it somehow. Miscast (except for Salma) and/or badly written characters -- even Donald Sutherland was nondescript for him. the characters could have been so much better, deeper, more richly drawn. Salma was good though.
I failed to understand the psychodynamics, right from the git-go...why is Salma attracted to him? Colin Farrell sure doesn't give us a clue.

Ask the Dust seemed to me a book about a young struggling writer.. A Bildungsroman, coming of age.. you know.. Casting Farrell as an inexperienced BOY is unforgivable.. So yes, I was dissapointed too. :(

I was disappointed in this movie too. It's okay, but I really think Colin Farrell was completely miscast. I didn't hate the movie, but I didn't like it much either. It was just a bit dull. Salma Hayek was good, Colin, as I said, was miscast, and Donald Sutherland was just wasted. Definitely a disappointment for me and, as the original poster said, I had high hopes. I'm going to read the book instead.

I like Colin; he's a good actor. Also, I have to say, he does a great American accent.

The Dude abides.

The movie was awful and the nudity overrated. No reason to ever watch this thing again.
