I just can take RR seriously

Maybe it has to do with his typecast, but just the way a lot if his lines come across in the movie. Like in the scenes when he is pissed and actually yelling at in his deep voice, but when he just in normal diologue. Like when he says "These kids are out of control", the way he says it, it sounds like some cheesy line you would hear in some cheaper by the dozen type movie.

I agree. Glad you said it. Hes just too smirky to believe him in this madman role. I think hes more cut out for comedy,

I couldn't take him seriously because he was too ripped. Other actors would have changed their physique for this, even Sly Stallone gained lots of weight for Copland, and of course Christian Bale is the master of changing his body for roles.

Lol, I agree. Every time he tried to be brooding and evil I would chuckle, it came off so goofy and comedic.

Oh, well.

Swing away, Merrill....Merrill, swing away...

Oh I didn't see it that way at all. I thought Ryan did a pretty damned decent job here.

The "these kids are out of control" line should never have been written. I doubt Olivier himself could have delivered that line without half the audience snickering at its absurdity.

Given what he had to work with, I thought RR did ok. He had to walk a fine line between genuine nice guy and '@rse-hole losing his mind', from the minute they moved into the house. It wasn't a slow progression. He was flipping back and forth and that can't have been easy. He convinced me and frightened me with his intensity during his 'crazed' scenes.

The children were particularly good at showing their fear and confusion in dealing with someone whose behaviour was so erratic.

So put some spice in my sauce, honey in my tea, an ace up my sleeve and a slinkyplanb

He was fantastic in The Voices.

I thought he did great in the wood chopping scene. I watch a lot of horror and for some reason that scene made me feel very uncomfortable. Ryan Reynolds does a perfect job and so does the kid.

I actually thought he did a decent job in this movie, especially considering that he has been primarily goofy roles in most of his movies. Its hard to break out of a typecast like that once you're in it.

RR was great in this.
