Precious on the list of recommended movies?

I couldn't help but notice that the very dark, grim, twisted, and downright depressing "Precious: Based on the Novel Push By Sapphire" is on the list of recommended movies if you liked this. I honestly don't understand why.

Apart from the fact that they are both about two youngsters who fail to get ahead, they couldn't be more different.

IMDb's summary of Precious:

"In Harlem, an overweight, illiterate teen who is pregnant with her second child is invited to enroll in an alternative school in hopes that her life can head in a new direction."

I would guess because she's to enroll in an alternative school in hopes that her life can head in a new direction.

The students in this movie did the very same thing.

Please note I've not seen "Precious".
