Curses in Rome

It's a fairly common theme throughout, not just used by Servilla, but by Naomi's sister and people throughout the marketplace.

Was this a common thing at the time? Sorcery? I feel like it's a bit different than just praying to the Gods.

Interesting that though most curses came true, Atia defies the main curse Servilla lays on her and comes out strong with healthy children despite the heartbreak by Mark Antony.

It was definitely done by the Greeks and Romans. The closest modern thing to compare it to would be a voodoo doll. The show follows how it was done pretty accurately. Lead sheet, calling on the gods, etc.

It's a bit different than praying to the gods in that when you pray to the gods, you would be asking for something more positive usually.

Curses were more for vengeance purposes. Also usually you had to pay for them. (They've actually found fill-in-the-blank curse tablets in Roman ruins.)
