Just saw the 3 hours English version of the movie

I've got a screener DVD from film's distributor Echelon Entertainment and considering distribution in the tiny little territory of Israel. Expect a DVD by the end of 2007. Original English Version. Running time just below 180 minutes. Beautiful, well-acted and well crafted film, which unfortunately too slow, bearing its origin in 10-hour TV mini-series. Rupert Everett and F. Murrey Abraham are magnificent and very convincing as Cossacs. Russian actors are absolutely wonderful, delivering very good performances in English. Sadly sell-by-date for this film is over and it will never have a proper distribution. Very fitting ending chapter of illustrous career by its director.

I have not purchased it, I've got the distribution screener from them. Echelon Enterntainment is not involved in direct sales, but in distribution rights sales. Alfredo Correa is Echelon Entertainment'VP domestic and international sales and this is his email just in case: [email protected]

There have been unconfirmed rumors that the films comes on DVD from Kino International, so you could inquire with Alfredo whether the rumors are true.

That's the wrong movie from "bloody" Gerasimov.

This is an altogether different film by another legendary actor, screenwriter and director, Sergei Gerasimov, whose name the All Russia State Institute of Cinematography bears. Bondarchuk trained and taught at this school and under Gerasimov coincidentally. No disrespect to legendary Sergei Bondarchuk, in many ways perhaps a very slightly more important person to world cinema, but Gerasimov's version is the definitive one. Bondarchuk's production was fraught with problems.
