What happened to Red?

Does he live or die? When the woman said that they found the compass when cleaning out his place, I assume that he dies. I can't imagine that he would move out just cause of an accident. That and the fact that they were a hell of a long way from a hospital....anyone share any insights? (it was kinda disappointing to learn that nothing more was made of the situation with Ron Perlman's character because I only watched the film cause he was in it.)

He dies from his injuries apparently. Perlman made a big impact in this movie and didn't utter one word. That's awesome.

I haven't seen this movie in awhile but I sort of remember there being a scene in which somebody mentioned how Red's place got cleaned out which implied he died.

I was under the impression that Red died too. A shame, I was hoping for a bigger role for Ron Perlman, but he did have a major impact w/o saying a word. I really wished he had saved Lenny's life on the tree branch too. Somehow I got the feeling he was trying to-that he wasn't aiming the gun to shoot at her, but he wanted her to grab hold of it. But she was too scared to move and wasn't sure of his intentions.

What would have made for a very interesting movie to me– A character similar to Red, a scarred man who doesn't care to speak is somehow suddenly forced to raise a little girl of the 'enemy.' And she is able to break down his walls. In other words, Perlman in the lead. Which would have warmed this fan-girl's heart to see a real Linda Hamilton/Ron Perlman reunion. They had no interaction in this film.

Danny Glover is a great actor, but to me he often plays the same type over and over and this was just another of his grumpy, ranting middle-aged man roles he's done throughout the 2000 decade.

I also did not understand this bit. So they just dropped him there and forgot about him? He obviously died but they could have given him at least a final moment. He was supposed to be an important character after all.
