Just saw this movie on DVD. It was slow and hard to get the whole story. Worthwhile seeing I suppose. Ralph and the other did a pretty convincing job and the little girl, katya i wanted to "kill" sometimes because she was so obnoxioux and pushy. If I feel that way about a character it usually means (to me) that it's either superb acting and/or directing/writing.

I must've totally missed exactly what mr jackson was doing with a board. i thought it was mentioned he was a diplomat when he was young, etc. Then lent his name to something, etc. What was that all about?

The old company is the predecessor of the OSS, which became the CIA. Not a big jump from State to Intelligence. His protege (who also played a CIA spook in The Good Shepherd) is disappointed in what happened to the father served with in the "old firm", before going blind, and to pot.
