Homosexuality

Does the film address Darby's homosexualality? It was a no no in the punk scene at the time, but later became an issue worth fighting for with the punks I grew up with in the late 80's. An outcast was an outcast.

It doesn't dwell on it, but yes.

reply

Well it sure doesnt address the flaming homosexuality of Pat Smear. God dam this film was bad on so many levels

. . . but Pat Smear isn't gay. The "flaming" personality is highly deceptive, in his case. He's married to his longtime girlfriend, and they may have a child. Gotta say, Pat Smear is a fascinating character, interesting guitar player, and all around guitar-obsessive.

reply

i'm probably stating the obvious, but being married and a father doesn't mean you can't be gay.

“There is no such thing as a homosexual or a heterosexual person. There are only homo -- or heterosexual acts. Most people are a mixture of impulses if not practices.”
Gore Vidal (American novelist and essayist b.1925)

reply

Yeah but just because you're flamboyant doesn't make you gay either.

reply

Gore Vidal and many other people make statements like that because they assume that everyone is bisexual to some degree. It's simply not the case. Not everyone has both hetero- and homosexual impulses. Personally I doubt it's even "most people".

Gore Vidal is full of *beep*

Hated the movie with a passion, but I kind of liked the guy playing Pat.

Dictated, but not read.

reply

I liked Rick Gonzalez as Pat too. He seems to have Pat's very smiling, affable persona down cold.
