Has anyone been to Oxford?

I really liked this movie. I like it more for its locations then its storyline. The storyline was pretty simple but the locations made this film more personal for me. The movie is set on the eastern shore in the tiny town of Oxford, Maryland which is just across on the other side of the Chessapeake Bay Bridge. Its personal to me because its a place that my family and I go to from time to time. My parents baught a sailboat when they were engaged and sailed along the Bay for their honeymoon and stopped at Oxford and stayed at a Hotel. Later on after my parents had two sick children with major medical problems, they needed a place to escape to so they went to Oxford and St. Micheals on some weekends and left my brother and I with a nurse. As my brother and i got older, we took weekend trips. But, the most personal thing for me was that after my mom died of breast cancer, my dad spread her ashes in the water off of the shores of Oxford in memorie of her. My mom and dad had always had planes to live on the eastern shore after they retired. They really liked Oxford because it was a small town and quiet. It just seemed like the perfect resting place for my mom.

Anyways, as i watched some of the scenes I couldn't help but think to myself, that I stood in that very spot that the acters where standing in. Like for instence, when the acters where waiting at the dock for the fairy. My family and I stood waiting for that same fairy to come and pick us up at Oxford and take us over to the St. Micheals side of the bay. Anyways beautiful film.

So has anyone been to Oxford, Maryland? Tell me your stories and what does the town means to you.

Sadly Oxford and Saint Michaels have become pretty touristy and over-developed :(

I still really like them though.

I live in Ridgely MD, on the Eastern Shore, near Denton...about 20 miles inland from Oxford. Oxford, and St. Michaels, are wondeful towns although there is much growth and housing costs have skyrocketed as they have all around here. I moved here 3 years ago from the "Western Shore" becuase of rising housing costs. We really love the Eastern Shore. Oxford is a beautiful small town, we visit occasionally, went over for dinner late last summer.

I will have to see this movie, it was in the news in Baltimore when it was released. It is showing in Annapolis but sadly is not showing in Easton, which is the closed "big" town to Oxford.

My son was in the movie "Swimmers" and my husband and I took a road trip to the Eastern Shore to visit him. I thought the area was beautiful. We stayed in Easton and visited St. Michael's. Loved it all. I am sorry about your mother. My mother too died of breast cancer.
